From Wiki : "The film is based on the 2017 book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice by Adam Makos, which retells the comradeship between naval officers Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner during the Korean War."
Looking forward to the movie.
I’d rather see the new Black Panther movie.
It likely has fewer white people to trash.

I’m pretty burned out on black hero/white racists movies. Maybe someone who has seen it has a different take. I’d be nice to be wrong.
My s-i-l, a friend of his, and I plan to see it when it comes to Carlisle, PA. (That theater has truly reclining seats).
The trailer turned me right off. I don’t know what the movie is really like, but the trailer made me think it was about a brave and perfect black man who is just better than all the white people, and the white people are (of course) prejudiced and at first fail to see how brave and perfect the black man is, but he shows them the error of their ways.
And, you know, I’ve seen that movie before. Several times.
Yep - Sidney Poitier made a career out of playing these roles.
So, the fact that it’s based on a true story is meaningless?
Actually, the white guy is the hero. Tom Hudner received the Medal of Honor for trying to save Jesse Brown.
And just remember, those can, do. Those who can’t, become critics.
What I’m really saying is that whoever put together that trailer really failed at his job because the trailer definitely made me NOT want to see the movie.
That’s the bottomline. I don’t like to support Hollywood and that trailer gave me no reason to change my mind.
Yes. I don’t need to be brow beaten with this theme, it was real and it’s been done to death.
Hollywood only makes about one good movie every 10 years this one isn’t one of them.
I agree....saw the trailer and came away with the expectation that it was yet ANOTHER story about how the black pilot had to show all the white pilots that they were racist and shouldn't have been against them all because he ends up saving their lives.
Don’t confuse us with the facts
Again, harping on the trailer — I had no idea there were two pilots in the movie (aside from the basic concept that the US Navy does have more than one pilot). From what I saw, the movie was 100% about the black guy. If the facts are different, and if the white pilot performed bravely and if that’s a key part of the story, then that is all very nice.
But the trailer failed badly.
One white hero wouldn’t change a theme. Are you saying this movie isn’t basically about white racism? That would make it more interesting.
But the real story is about Tom and Jesse and their friendship.
Again, if the movie is true to the book.
Which most movies aren't.
I haven’t seen it yet. That’s why I posted the thread
Funny...my Dad never told me that the success of the Korean War rested on the shoulders of black aviators. //Sarc
I am not denigrating the contributions of any person who serves/ed our nation in war time. Nor am I suggesting that black aviators did not face a whole lot of hardships to get where they were. All of that is true. I am grateful that our nation has progressed in the past 70+ years.
I am sure its a good story.
I am just tired of the entertainment business trying to make me feel guilty for something I never did.
But I am sure this time...its different.
