Everything about deer hunting in the south is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
When we lived in Georgia from Wisconsin, I was shocked at how frail and slight the deer were there. Even the squirrels we undersized with embarrassingly unfurry tails. Armadillos were everywhere. Worse, fire ants could NOT be removed. They would be back 10 feet away with reinforcements in under a week.

Maybe you’d be happier in Wisconsin.

New Orleans has some great restaurants, but everything else about the South is just wrong.
I admit to being a little prejudiced. Albany, New York is as far West and as far South as I ever want to live.
Don't even get me going about snakes. Poisonous snakes, aggilators, to hell with all that.

Yep. The deer get smaller as you go further south. When you get down to Florida, they are the size of a large dog.

One of the quirks of nature. Winters are mild and food plentiful so there’s no reason to bulk up for a long and brutal winter. Also the larger the animal the more heat is retained, which is good up north but can cause heat exhaustion in the warmer climes.
Smaller deer tend to successfully reproduce in the south.
Generalities of course.

We don’t need wokie Karen types inAlabama. Our deer are just fine the way they are!

One reason Georgia deer run thin is that there are just too many of them. That’s why the limit is 14 per season and 2 per day. We have around 5 deer living on our rural property in Habersham county and they all look pretty good this year. We had a good acorn season. I’m originally from North Florida and Florida deer are really small.
