Sea captains have been reporting these rougue waves for hundreds years and were always dismissed until fairly recently.
Rogue wave? WTH is a rogue wave?
Large wave...
Very large wave...
But...rogue? What? It’s wandering around the ocean looking for a hapless cruise ship to attack?
Sheesh!
Despite the popularity and charm of cruise ships, they are still more dangerous than staying on land. Things can go wrong, and when they do, the ship is far from land and hospitals.
Visiting Antarctica is on my bucket list.Years ago I was planning to go on one of those Air New Zealand flights that flew over the continent...but after one of them crashed they stopped them.
well with a bow shaped like that, i’m surprised all the front windows werent smashed out as well... that ship cannot take on anything bigger than 20ft seas i would guesstimate...
“According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, rogue waves can be double the size of surrounding waves. They often come unexpectedly from directions other than that of the prevailing wind.”
But are they sure it was not a “vast right wing” “rogue wave”?

Mystery rouge wave didn’t happen.
Amazing. A BBC article that didn’t blame whatever happened on global warming.
If people were meant to live in Antarctica, there would be a Cracker Barrel there
Duh
Does the BBC use editors any more?
In this short article, the ship was “bound for Antarctica”, “sailing to Ushuaia” (i.e., coming back from Antarctica), and newly arrived in Argentina to begin a cruise on December 5.
Is Sarah OK?
The Davis Strait is, on average, the worst, roughest passage on the planet.
If I had the money ($30 000) I would go on one of those Ushuaia - Antarctica cruises, instead of sticking to YouTube, but I’m surprised there aren’t more accidents.
And, as someone else posted, the ship doesn’t exactly look as if it were designed for a Davis Strait passage.
I'm much more concerned about Pool Sharks.
...and I don't mean Minnesota Fats.
We would play a game at the helm of a Destroyer. If you time it just right, you can make a wave hit the bridge windows. That was worth 100pnts.
I freaked once because the bow went under the water and stayed there for a few seconds flooding the living quarters. The captain happen to be on the bridge and told me to get off the sidewalk
