When I first heard that 2020’s Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Argentina had secretly gotten married, I’ll be honest—I thought I was hallucinating. A secret queer femme romance born out of pageant culture? When my two favourite things in this world are LGBTQ+ love stories and the movie Miss Congeniality? Are you kidding me?

I almost feel guilty for thinking this is wrong.; ie That two of the most beautiful women in the world should be married to men, starting families and having equally beautiful children.
Such is the culture war we are engaged now in the West.

Why isn’t the word “married” in scare quotes? They are not married. And I feel no guilt in saying so.

If it’s not a publicity stunt, let me play armchair shrink and suggest that this may be an offshoot of extreme narcissism. Exhibit A ... these women really look alike. They’re practically clones. Perhaps they are so enamored and obsessed with their own looks that they have sexualized it and are thus in effect in love with themselves.
