Insurance company is saying months IF the county doesn’t condemn it.
At least 85% is still fine.
Just the 1900s add on is wrecked.
How do I fight them condemning it?!?!

If the fire department orders an inspection that results in your house being condemned, I think the inspector has to leave a notice on your front door describing exactly what must be done to lift the condemnation.

If the inspection has not yet happened, it might help to have the property looking as good as possible before the inspector arrives.

Someone on FR knows the best way to handle the situation you are in. I wish that was me.

I'd help if I could. It seems to me that you (and your dog) have gone through more than your fair share of sh*t lately.

Several years ago I received notice from the town where I have a house near the ocean. It said there had been severe storms and I had roof damage. If not repaired the house would be torn down in one month. I went to see the town’s permits man. He said line up a contractor to do the roof repairs. I actually needed a new roof. I lined up someone and made a downpayment. Then Covid hit. It took months before the work started with tearing off the roof and covering part with tarp, and another part with OSB panels that were not sealed with tape as they should have been.

Sloppy work by the contractor’s subcontractor resulted in 2 second floor ceilings lost, and damage to first floor ceiling under the bedrooms. Then the contractor was unfindable. I again met with the permits man. He told me when and where to find the contractor, who had opened a restaurant and closed his contractors business. He moved the work forward after we met, but lost his restaurant because of his stupid violation of Covid rules. I now have a new roof, but I had to buy and install my own French doors for the large dormer addition I had ordered, and the roof edges and cove molding still need to be installed. I hope you will find this information useful in dealing with the house issue. Perhaps you could tell me what State you live in, and how large the community your house is in. I have dealt with property both in small towns and large cities. You can PM me if you wish.

As to the loss of dogs and part of house, and not crying. Turn on sad music, say goodby to each you have lost, and cry as long and as hard as you can. An hour and one half is not unusual. Repeat as feelings become overwhelming again. I cared for my mother and husband as they were dying around 2000. Crying really helped. Now I am dealing with my brother and partner fighting cancer. Crying still helps. For the moment they are both improving with treatment. I wish you the very best in dealing with your multiply losses and troubles. Thank goodness you have the FReeper family for help.
