Brian Eno to Name the Earth as His Co-Writer
Ultimate Classsic Rock ^ | March 3, 2023 | Martin Kielty

Brian Eno is one of the artists who’ll credit the Earth as a co-writer of his music, as part of a project designed to secure royalties for eco-activism.

He co-founded the EarthPercent campaign, which will receive funds in perpetuity from work that names the planet as entitled to a share of income. The program is supported by a range of other artists including multiple Grammy winner Jacob Collier, and it’s hoped that $100 million will be diverted from the music industry toward environmental causes. Eno called it “a poetic construct” and “a beautiful idea” in a statement, while producer Fraser T. Smith said it was “a brilliant initiative,” noting, “Adding the Earth as a beneficiary on projects is not only a choice but a necessity.”

It’s one of several music industry programs that address the ecological damage done by the act of doing business. The charity says in its mission statement that “we want to encourage artists and music-related organizations to pledge a small percentage of their income to EarthPercent. This percentage can be collected at source and diverted to EarthPercent where it will be directed to the most impactful organizations dealing with climate change.

“Currently, only 3% of all philanthropic giving globally is directed towards protecting the future of our planet. This is not nearly enough to match the scale and urgency of the problem. One of the most impactful things music can do is get more money as fast as possible to those at the forefront of fighting the climate emergency. We can and we will make the change.”

A dodgy tax dodge? Whatever the semitics of semantics or vise-versa, musicians make terrible business people, except for Yoko Ono. I think Brian should come down to earth and open his eyes to the scam of climate control. Blocking out the sun with red pellets in the atmosphere is a great artistic idea but don’t do it for the sake of global warming.

One of the original "Trans"-persons. He went from this in the 70s:

To this today.

It was a fad then that he outgrew. Its a fad today that the "trans" people will outgrow.

Yoko Ono is not a musician, which proves your point.

One of the original "Trans"-persons.

"Eno made his recording debut as the synthesizer player and founding member of Roxy Music, a group led by preening frontman Bryan Ferry. Eno joined the group after encountering saxophonist Andy Mackay in a subway station, and true to his future behind-the-scenes work, he initially did not appear onstage during the group's performances. He first performed from backstage, operating a mixer, an analog synth, and singing backing vocals unseen, though he eventually joined in the glam makeup and costumes of the rest of the band." So like his friend David Bowie it was a successful marketing angle of the time.

In my humble opinion these are his best albums:

Roxy Music, Roxy Music
Roxy

Here Come the Warm Jets
Here

Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy
Taking

After these he dove deep into his own weirdness to make "ambient music" I just couldn't relate to. Huge credit, though, for going on to produce some hugely successful albums for other artists over the years like U2, Coldplay and Devo besides scoring several films.

Here he is with Roxy Music playing synthesizer on "Editions of You". Back then it was a new experimental instrument only he and Rick Wakeman were working with.
