Cable-cord cutters in the New York area can now stream Yankees games — but it’ll be expensive.

The YES Network on Wednesday announced the launch of a direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service with which users who don’t get local cable TV can watch its live sports broadcasts, including Yankees, Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty games.

The service will cost $24.99 a month, or $239.99 a year, with a special offer of $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year for those who sign up by April 30. YES’s traditional TV customers will be able to access the streaming service for free.

The way of the future, all streaming services an apps.

People complain about their $250.mth cable bills, a few of these services ad you're at more than that. The market is getting more and more specialized. A far cry from only 3 networks just 40ish years ago

Yes , remember the days when there were three major television networks, and many people had antennas on the roof of their houses to pull in the signal?

Technology has definitely changed in recent decades and will continue to change. I’ve heard that eventually cable TV companies may go out of business, because all programming may eventually go through streaming services instead.

But they still have market share for their internet services. Comcast, Spectrum etc, FIOS is not available in many places. The satellite providers are starting to make headway with providers like Starlink.

I don’t believe you can get local games on MLB.com... I know we can’t in the Philly area.

No. Included as a benefit with T Mobile accounts. You have to have the T-Mobile Tuesday App. There is no charge other than your normal $50.00 a month Phone & Data package.

You just have to sign up through the app

It’s called a VPN.

Stream it through VPN to a laptop that is plugged into your TV with an HDMI cable

Only $239.99 a year to watch the Yankees get beat by the Astros in the playoffs?

The Houston Astros will remain the Yankee’s daddy.

Interesting, so that hides your location so all games are available even what would be considered in market?

Aren’t the playoffs and the World Series still on major broadcast networks, as opposed to the streaming services? Aren’t these charges for the regular season games and not playoff games?

Yes. Route through a server in Europe or Asia. If they think you are in Frankfurt or Tokyo nothing is blacked out.

Blacked out games are available on delay without a VPN.

But, you may not be able to use all free VPN’s. You may need a cheap subscription Cyberghost or something

Enough money to buy a starting pitcher that can last seven months without going on the IL...

Maybe they do, but people travel.

But how would MLB.com know what my T-Mobile billing address is?

Fubo and Mlb do not allow using a VPN. I tried last year. At some point I will re-up my Fubo for Red Sox games and other sports.

The Red Sox TV provider, NESN off a “deal” of $329 for a year of access. It included 4 tickets to a Red Sox game (claimed to be a $250 value). Those tickets cost NESN nothing since they are owned by the Red Sox and they would be otherwise unsold seats.
