Larry Allen West, 68, was arrested for the murder of then 18-year-old Carol Joyce Deleon.

West was connected to the case following new evidence that went under DNA testing, according to a police report.

On June 4, 1981, an unidentified body was found along the interstate highway.

Her identity was not originally found, despite fingerprints and sharing a sketch to the public.

In May 2008, it was discovered that only one missing person was of a similar description in the time frame of the murder.

Deleon was reported missing in 2007, 26 years later.

DNA testing confirmed the victim was Deleon.

Deleon reportedly told her family she was moving away when she turned 18, and the family assumed she did. Deleon's youngest sister decided to file the missing persons report after not hearing from her in years.

Additional DNA testing in 2020 lead to identifying West. His identity was confirmed through forensic DNA testing.

West was arrested and booked on a $125,000 bond.

Seriously? Her family never reported her missing until 26 years later?

I have lately been watching Cold Squad on Tubi. It is about a cold case squad in the Victoria Canada homicide department. This sounds like a real life episode.

Those 42 years haven’t been good for him, judging by his 80 yr old appearance.

$125,000 bond?

If he has $12,500 in savings, he can pay a bondsman and get home arrest until he is convicted or released.

Unless there are eye witnesses, or he told other people about killing her, murder is going to be a tough charge to prove after four decades.

Worse, previous rape-murders can’t be mentioned in court.

(Mentioned, because police have his DNA).
