As previously noted, I have used all the same chords Stevie Ray Vaughn used. You would never know it. Well, maybe. 🎸🔊

Humorously put. But being an amateur guitar player myself, there are only some many chord patterns that “make sense”, and then only so many melodies one can put on top of a selected chord pattern that “make sense”.

Eventually, any given song is going to be largely duplicated eventually. And given our increasingly litigious society, the lawyers in this arena stand to make a lot of money.

Given the level of copying that goes on in the music business I find it hilarious that they file copyright infringement lawsuits against each other.

Last Night I attended a wonderful performance of Mozart’s Requiem.

The music was unfamiliar to me, but I am VERY familiar with handel’s “Messiah”.

Imagine my shock when I heard the very notes of “With His Stripes We Are Healed” stolen from Handel’s Messiah and put in the Kyrie Eleison in Mozart’s Masterpiece!

Not only did Mozart use the same notes, he also extended it into a fugue, just like Handel did:

Just my impression. What do you think?

Ed Sheeran.....his music is so dumb and awful. The younger generations have no taste. We had the Rolling Stones, who were creative and gave off vibes of sex and danger.

Ed Sheeran playing that tiny guitar irritates me. It is such lame posing. But he is worth a few hundred million due to being a solo act. No need to split the money with some other musicians. If/when he goes out on tour with an accompanist or two, they get paid a pittance salary. Mostly he goes he goes out by himself, with his child’s size guitar.

The fugue in the Kyrie is Mozart composing with his size 15 triple-E boots. No composers of Requiems ever set the Kyrie as a fugue again. Berlioz set it as plainchant and saved his fugue for the Hosanna. Verdi also worked his way around the problem to avoid Mozart.

The final chord of the fugue is still a mystery to me as to how Mozart pulled it off. He uses an octave with an open fifth -- D-A-D -- leaving out the middle note which would indicate D Major or D minor. He doesn't do this for the sake of tonal ambiguity but to create the impression of space. Usually the octave with the open fifth creates the impression of the space above, but here Mozart uses it to create the impression of the space below, i.e., the abyss. I find it chilling but can't quite figure out how he made it work. Maybe the tympani holding the bass part down directs the ear to the abyss. Maybe it's just the work of genius.
