America has failed millennials so badly they’re turning to $1,000-per-month side hustles to make ends meet.

As many as two in five adults in the U.S. have a side hustle, according to a recent Bankrate survey of 2,500-plus adults, backing up LendingTree data from earlier this year that found side gigs are up by 13% over the past two years and recent Deloitte data that found more millennials and Gen Zers are adding on part-time jobs. Younger workers are more likely to need an extra job: 53% of Gen Zers and half of millennials have one, Bankrate finds, compared to only 40% of Gen Xers and 24% of baby boomers.

It's a reflection of the state of the economy, which has left many Americans—even those earning six figures—feeling like they're living paycheck to paycheck. At the end of the day, side hustles have become a necessity for many who are struggling to compete with the pace of inflation and trying to save amid recession fears. It makes sense that younger workers are more likely to have one, considering that the cost of living has been their top concern and stressor for the past two years. Millennials in particular have been struggling to keep their heads above water for years after hopping around a rocky post–Great Recession job market, dealing with inordinate student debt, and shopping around a difficult housing market—all of which has made it harder for them to become financially independent.

At least no more mean tweets. All while the establishment erodes the value of your hard-earned retirement savings every day to finance welfare for illegals, foreign wars, etc.

The only way America “failed them” was handing out free covid $ to do absolutely nothing and teaching them that survival was not supposed to require struggle.

Every generation prior seemed to understand that there was no such thing as a free lunch. Millennials call this “boomer mentality.”

A Contract With Millennial America will do the trick. They’re all under 42 years old. Screwed with SSI. There’s still time for them to have a decent retirement. The Pinera fella from Chile could set it up. His brother somehow got canned as President down there.

Maybe the ones who voted for this mess will wise up from the pain and learn to not get fooled so easily by media and cultural propaganda from the left.

At least there is still money to be made in a side hustle.

When there is no more money to be made is side hustle, things will be very bleak.

Failed them?

No, not “America”, but the fascist wannabe commies who hate it and the Constitution have ruined everything and failed them.

The fascism has grown for decades, and the garbage they push is finally coming home to roost.

Boomer mentality?

What exactly do they call Boomer mentality?

Because I think “lazy hedonistic America-hating bums” with such a term.

Every generation prior seemed to understand that there was no such thing as a free lunch.

Actually, there is, for some people.

What that quote means is that if somebody gets a free lunch, somebody else pays for it. It doesn't mean that nobody gets a free lunch.

In an increasingly socialist economy, a growing percentage of Takers enjoy free lunches, inflicting a growing burden on the Makers. Until the whole thing collapses.

The game plan, from the Takers' point of view, is to enjoy the free lunches, and hope that the collapse won't occur until after they die.

AMEN!

I'm so sick and f'n tired of millenials whining and whining and whining!

Up until I was 45 I always worked at least two different jobs and that was while I had a damn' good career in technology already. The second job (consulting) was for the extra money and so I'd keep learning.

Stop whining millenials. Grow up. The world owes you NOTHING and you've failed yourselves. Get over it and stop blaming others for your own damn' shortcomings.

Says the generation who sent all the jobs overseas, imported an army of unskilled foreigners to take those that remained, and oversaw the cost of college, housing, and healthcare skyrocket through the roof.

But you all got yours so it's good.

Yeah like I had anything to do with any of that.

I was a kid when that stuff happened. I worked my way through college working at McDonald’s. You work at McD’s sport? Didn’t think so.

*America* hasn’t failed them.

They are just entitlement mentality children who think they are owed everything the rest of us worked a lifetime to attain.

This article contradicts what itself.

It implies younger people can’t succeed. Actually, it is providing evidence these young people are succeeding exactly the same way every generation has succeeded. Get off your arse and go to work.

There is no promise you can live the life style you wish on 2o hr or 40 hr work per week. The promise is you can achieve whatever you want by working harder and longer than any one else. If it takes a second or third or even 4th job so be it.

To say that is failing a generation is disingenuous.

The current generation thinks they are the first to discover or experience everything. “Today I was X years old ….”

Generations before you held second jobs, worked 6+ days/wk, and held moonlight jobs. It’s called hard work.

Millennials got crap degrees and expect to be the boss in 2 years or less. How do I know? I work with or around some of them. A couple of them have good engineering degrees, but both share the same trait of expecting to be the boss and not putting in their time.
