Hunter Biden's lawyer has blasted the account of an IRS whistleblower who testified about a WhatsApp message where he appeared to threaten a Chinese businessman and claiming to be seated with his powerful father.
Lawyer Chris Clark, who negotiated a plea agreement on Hunter's behalf with the Justice Department, called the whistleblower 'biased' and claimed the account covered 'a time of turmoil and addiction' for the president's son.
He also disputed the veracity of Hunter's claim about now-President Biden in the WhatsApp message, saying his words have 'no connection to anyone in his family.'
'An extensive, five-year-long investigation conducted by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) concluded this week, which resulted in my client taking responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments, as well as a firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement,' wrote Clark, following House GOP charges that it amounted to a 'sweetheart deal.'
Then he took on the claim about the WhatsApp message itself, on a day when White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre was bombarded with questions about it.
'As his attorney through this entire matter, I can say that any suggestion the investigation was not thorough, or cut corners, or cut my client any slack, is preposterous and deeply irresponsible,' Clark said.
'The DOJ investigation covered a period of time which was full of turmoil and addiction for my client. Any verifiable words or actions of my client, in the midst of a horrible addiction, are solely his own and have no connection to anyone in his family.'
Then he went after the whistleblower, supervisory IRS agent Gary Shapley, whose testimony was released by House Republicans this week, and who claims to have run up against resistance while trying to push the Hunter Biden tax probe...
