Wagner is estimated to have around 5,000 troops across #Africa. Its contractors control strategic sites and mineral deposits. But #Wagner’s CEO, #Prigozhin, uses the PMC as a springboard to score points with #Putin.

Its not really a secret. They’ve been there for years.
They recently massacred 500 villagers in Mali. People still talk about My Lai, but it barely passes the news threshold when Russians do it.
Evacuate Mali. Send a brigade of armed black convicts with instructions to kill all whites. Problem solved.
Give them their 40 acres in Mali. Throw in a Cadillac.
This is an outrage. Just becasuse Al Qaeda has turned Mali into a hell-hole is no excuse for Russians to go killing them.This kind of behaviour is unacceptable for a bunch on knwon international thugs who are put up to this by Putin. This kind of behavior is only justified when performed by a democratic country like the US enforcing the international rules based order.
They are hired by the host government ….similar to Blackwater and other PMCs.
They were hired to train security forces in at least one African country, may be supporting govt forces in Sudan and Libya…haven’t really kept up
Point is…their presence is not a “ secret” nor are they engaging in “ terrorism” though the opponents of their missions may find their skills terrifying

More likely they were hired to train security or work with security to track down the groups that massacre civilians

A French led coalition of soldiers was hunting terrorists there. Then Mali had a military coup and the new military junta cares only about personal enrichment.
The French would require some standards of behavior from them, but the Russian criminal army doesn’t care about anything other than money. They will steal all the natural resources and as long as they share some of the money with the military junta then they’re fine with it.
Wagner is an outfit where the officers are former military who got a BCD or worse and the enlisted men are just criminals. It is not unexpected that there is a lot of wanton brutality and war crimes.

That’s why so many Africans have kicked out the noble humanitarian French who never had any history of exploiting them, and have contracted with Wagner. Because the Russians are so brutal…..
The brutality is in the islamist groups throughout the Sahel that Wagner has been brought in to try and defeat. Are civilians caught in the middle sometimes? It happens. In fact, the US PMC Blackwater was expelled from Iraq for a massacre of civilians in a 2017 gun battle with insurgents ( Trump would later pardon the Blackwater contractors involved, given his ties to Erik Prince and Betsy DeVos)
Russia relations with all of Africa are on a big upswing, if you haven’t noticed.

Wagner is admired by the strongman leaders in many African countries.
Expect their presence to remain or even grow, despite Western efforts to discredit them,
Brics is an amalgamation of losers that is in fact a loser
