My store is on the list of "safe outing stops" for our local assisted care home.

They come in about once a month and allow the residences to shop for books and other media. Some of the people are disabled (mental and physical) and some are just old. Some days I look at this group of about 20 people shopping and enjoying a day out, looking for favorite authors and I get a chill because their very existence is threatened.

People who never will know or interact with them want them dead. They are not worthy of life in their opinion. And I despair for humanity.

And then I look at the people who are caring for them. Some are paid but some are family members. And I feel hope again.

Monsters. If they didn't want to take care of him, they could have let him be adopted. Sick.
