If the AZ plate comes back as not matching a black Charger, there’a a potential crime. Looks like current AZ plates have an alpha-numeric pattern of ABC 1234, and Arkansas plates are ABC 123. But there are exceptions, and older plates can vary.

The error resulted in an incorrect registration return, leading the officer to believe that the vehicle was possibly stolen.

Its like making a typo on an Internet URL. You get a "404" message that says somethings wrong this page can't be reached. When that happens with a license plate inquiry it means there is a problem with that license plate i.e altered or fake or whatever. So rather than running it again, the cop just assumed that this frequently stolen model of car was in fact stolen.

No, you misread the article: (and your typing stinks too)

Nope. Not even that.

The error resulted in an incorrect registration return, leading the officer to believe that the vehicle was possibly stolen.

The machine basicly said "Error, would you like to try again?" and office Jumpy said, "Stolen car!"

Perhaps the police should introduce the concept of "check your work" to their department.

And their reasons for running the plate in the first place are paper thin.
