[Baseball Vanity] The Result of a Beanball Should Be (1) Automatic Ejection for the Pitcher and (2) Four Bases for the Batter

Posted on 07/30/2023 4:43:34 PM PDT by Hebrews 11:6

All baserunners score.

"Intent" is irrelevant--if balls hits head, rule applies.

Can't imagine why this hasn't been the rule for 150 years.

May as well call it football if you’re going to make it more girly.

I've been beaned many times and have suffered no ill effects.

If you don't want to get plunked on occasion, an easier solution would be to simply not play.

Not everyone is made of glass.

There have been many batters who made a living crowding the plate and taking a fast ball to the arm.

Lotsa batters gonna lean heavily into the batters box.

Some batters will specialize in being hit. They’ll of course have lots of arm padding, padded gloves.

Baseball becomes Beanball.

But what if it's "Hate Pitch", i.e. a whitey hits a person of color? (But not if a protected species hits a whitey)

Hey, now, I resemble that remark ...

The real result of a bean ball should be the pitcher has to stand in the batter’s box and take one himself.

“Baseball becomes Beanball.”

Exactly! I was a little league pitcher and saw kids lean way too far into the strike zone. I inadvertently beaned a few.

End the Designated Hitter rule and this all goes away.

Biggio and Bagwell were a double teaming dual who combined for almost 400 HBP. Rizzo is the leader among most active HBP and may be the most ever by the end of his career. And there have been 9 all-stars on the most HBP. Its a hard living but batters have been very successful crowding the plate.

Remember Pete Rose taking a wicked one on his hip. Glared at the pitcher but didn’t let him know it hurt. Never even rubbed where he was hit.

Because you can’t judge intent. Seriously. Aroldis Chapman was for a while the most hated man in baseball, for being a headhunter. The reputation was “Ya wanna get back at someone, look to Aroldis. He’ll plunk him with 104-MPH fastball.”

The problem was the reputation was false. Someone eventually computer-analyzed every pitch Aroldis Chapman ever threw, and it turns out his reputation was based on nothing more than wildness. He was wild outside, inside, high, low. It’s just people remember the ones high and inside.

Or then there’s Don Baylor. Led the league in HBP every year. Why? Because he was huge and he didn’t give a rat’s ass about getting out of the way. Everyone laughed (and complained) that he was getting to first base by “taking one for the team.” (I even think he was the source of that idiom.) Ya wanna give him a home run for getting hit?

Hi.Heads up!

8^)

That’s are only two reasons to throw at a batter’s head.

......

Okay, I’ll tell you.

1 When the opposing pitcher throws at your head
2 when there is a squeeze play at home.

I should charge for this wisdom.

I stopped watching baseball because it got woke. I miss it but refuse to watch Marxist baseball.

The plate belongs to the pitcher. If you crowd it it’s up to the pitcher to let you know by offering up some chin music. It’s incumbent on the batter to dodge an inside pitch. It’s a shame if he gets beaned. That’s the game.

Your new rules will make baseball lose even more fans.
