Conservatives Can’t Play Political Hardball
American Thinker ^ | 5 Aug, 2023 | Steve Feinstein

The conservative mindset apparently is just not genetically oriented to playing political hardball.

The conservative mindset apparently is just not genetically oriented to playing political hardball. Time and again, progressives take the initiative and mount political and PR offensives against conservatives, rocking them back on their heels, defining the narrative in terms favorable to progressives and pre-emptively shaping public opinion in the minds of the persuadable voter. The notion of “facts” or “accuracy” doesn’t matter in the progressive playbook. The only thing that matters is going on offense.

Conservatives are forever playing an inadequate game of catchup. That is, when conservatives even bother to fight back at all. Too often, they simply absorb the blows unanswered, pleased with themselves for simply surviving the round until the bell.

As an experienced political observer, I’ve witnessed this for years on the national level. But just recently, I saw this first-hand in my home state of Massachusetts, a blue-dominated state where Republicans are outnumbered 135-25 in the State House of Representatives and 37-3 in the State Senate.

There are currently two “Women’s Health” bills pending before MA lawmakers. One of them would remove any age restrictions whatsoever concerning access to abortion and simultaneously eliminate any parental notification requirements. The other bill would severely infringe on the First Amendment free speech rights of pregnancy/resource centers to advertise their services to women and offer medical services and pregnancy counseling for expectant moms. In a state where “choice” is already carried to the extreme, these new bills would push matters well past any remote semblance of rational thought.

A well-respected family advocacy group, the MA Family Institute, organized several in-person meetings at the offices of Republican lawmakers around the state in an effort to rev up their support to oppose these bills...

The Republicans are going to need to learn to take the gloves off.

Only an unobservant person would consider mcconnell, romney, collins, etc. conservatives.
At best they’re liberal to moderate

In the sixties our courts were telling us that burning and desecrating the American flag was protected speech. Now we’re being told that desecrating a rainbow flag is hate speech, even though the rainbow flag doesn’t represent a nation but is a political symbol. The tolerance of political conservatives will be their downfall, and Marx told us so. He said the capitalists would sell the rope the Marxists will hang them with.

That’s why I like people like Steve Bannon and Matt Gaetz.

Agreed. The premise of the OP is flawed. What we see now is a govt populated by marxists who, if they live in Red states, profess to be Republican. That's what we have in Oklahoma.

Then they run unopposed and when they get into office, blend into the uniparty where they do maximum damage by .. doing nothing.

I agree, I see very few politicians that are willing to actually fight for the American people and this country. They will fight for their kickbacks though it seems. I’m done with all politicians at this point.

They’ve had plenty of time to learn. They don’t want to learn.

“Time and again, progressives take the initiative and mount political and PR offensives against conservatives, rocking them back on their heels”

Seems to me this pretty much describes demon possession because their initiatives always seem to end up producing something evil ... like abortion on demand ... LGBTQ+ “rights” ... gender transition surgery for minors.

Liberals dominate the political scene because their constituents are losers who need government just to survive.

Most conservatives I know have no interest in government — period.

It's not just Republicans but Conservatives in general.

We talk about freedom and capitalism, but we made the Chinese Communists rich with our free trade deals.

We complain about the bias of the media, but we continue to pour our money into their coffers with our TV subscriptions for the privilege of being entertained by them.

And we complain about the bias of tech companies, but we refuse to search out alternatives because we don't want to give up the convenience of same day deliver.

I could go on, but this meme says it all.

Agreed.

What irritates me is when folks who claim to be conservative keep trying to “conserve” leftist victory after leftist victory.

The Republicans are going to need to learn to take the gloves off.

Correction: the Anti communists are going to have to put lead pipes inside the gloves and wrap them with barbed wire. And then learn to love the blood and guts of political war.

the phony war has gone on long enough its time to inflict pain on the enemy.

Its genetically impossible for the Republican party to grow a spine. Which is why Trump has hijacked it with MAGA and essentially created a third party.

Conservatives are afraid to take State power to destroy their enemies, at least since 1945.

The Left is not.

The outcome is predictable unless something changes.

Republicans are lazy. They are unprepared during house hearings, they don’t bother to work to get voters to the polls, they don’t fight for a budget. Lazy!
Democrats are evil but the are prepared during house and senate hearings. They go up and down streets getting voters. They don’t say, “let’s vote on Election Day like it’s 1973.” It striking the difference.
