I’ve met a few people who claimed to be neo nazis along the way. They were sickly looking and had a lot of homemade tattoos. Not MAGA types.

Affirmative action. You forgot affirmative action.
Maybe the beneficiaries of affirmative action think they bring much more to the table than their race, but the people doing the hiring or admitting with thumbs on the scale think race race race.
And too many people of color think their lived experience, wisdom, common sense is far more true and profound than that of whites. Looking at you, Sonia Sotomayor.
And some don’t even think they need experience, they have some intrinsic superior racial soul.
It’s amazing just how few words would need to be changed in that article to make it have an entirely DIFFERENT meaning.
About 15 years ago I saw a small handful of those get run off from the periphery of a large TEA Party event at the GA state capitol. Hannity was one of the headline speakers, and despite anything the AJC or CNN might have said, there were in the range of 12-15,000 of us, a big crowd. The event hadn’t started yet, and folks made them very aware they WERE NOT welcome, and they exited the scene. And very much not TEA Party types, which at some level were proto-MAGA.

Sometimes I think there must be HUNDREDS of these people hiding out in the USA!

This is nothing new.
I heard an interesting lecture recently, where the speaker posited that race wasn’t a point of identity for CENTURIES. Wealth, caste, nationality, class…THAT was how people identified.
For example, for a LONG time in Europe, nobody thought about being white…they were French, British, German or whatever national identify was in fashion. Within a country, they were upper class, middle class, lower class, etc.
The fighting, rioting, wars….was along those dimensions. They were all white, but nobody cared. Indeed, that sentiment was well-captured in Blazing Saddles.
The lecturer posited that it wasn’t until the aristocracy and “the betters” realized they were outnumbered by the Little People, that they weaponized race. “Hey, all you grubby filthy people who want to kill me and pillage my wealth…don’t do that - you’re white, just like me! It’s the _____ that you want to hate.”
It’s a good theory, and I need to do some investigation. But anecdotally, it seems accurate. Indeed, I see scores of normally rational people since 2020 getting all riled up when some race-baiter makes an asinine comment. My white brethren take the bait, and Satan laughing spreads his wings.
Taking a hint from the lecturer, the identification by race should be revealed for what it is…and by WHOM it’s being weaponized.

Years ago I crossed paths with a guy who was a self-professed white supremacist. He was really more of a wannabe crackpot that no one took seriously. These days I often find myself looking for him whenever I see videos of pAntifa acting the fool.
Very true, but the Internet is 24/7 jar shaking.
Stuff that would pass unnoticed gets recycled to anger and provoke people, and the resulting comments anger and provoke other people.
