"I would have spanked his booty if I ever met him!"
-Little Richard, on Pat Boone's cover outselling the original
yer funny
Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ by Bono
The only good cover of “Hallelujah” was the John Cale one.
ooga chakka
...And just to prove I can play along: here’s Hawkwind with their space-rock rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter.” (Give it 30 seconds to clear out the electronic atmospherics and launch into the song.)

Your appreciation/revulsion will be in some ratio as to how much you like (or hate) Hawkwind versus the ‘Stones!
agreed
great cover great band
And DEVO’s cover of “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” is great....and even Mick liked it.
Hawkwind is one of my favorite bands, too! :-)
But I played it for a Stones fan and they couldn’t abide. :-/
capt brock and keef richards are gods put lemmy in there too
Punk bands covering The Stones pretty much always works. Alien Sex Fiends did a great cover of Satisfaction. Social D with Back Street Girl. Idles with Cry to Me. It’s a long solid list.
Oh, wow, that was hilarious!!
never saw hawkwind dammit never saw nektar dammit
saw the stones, they sucked
Social D rocks
Pat Boone doing Holy Diver is great. Can’t believe people are ragging on it. The swing and lounge style is sublime. Same goes with Shatner’s genius.
Well, you got me beat. I’ve never seen any of them!
Always a great groove. Seen them a few times. Good show. Even if Mike needs help remembering his lyrics.
When the album first came out, Pat Boone made the rounds to all of the daytime talk shows wearing his signature leather vest and ear rings.
I thought that maybe he did change genres and was singing these rock/light metal songs in the same style of the originals. Then I heard one of his rendidtions....
I immediately bought the CD for the very same reason you describe, and it was always a hit near the end of the evening when we were all a bit drunk.
