Three people were killed and five others hurt – two critically – in a high-speed Long Island crash late Sunday, cops said.

A motorist was heading west on Sunrise Highway – across from a shopping center – at a “high rate of speed” when that vehicle collided with three others around 7:20 p.m., Nassau County Police said.

Three people involved in the smash-up were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five more people were taken to local hospitals – where two are listed in “critical unstable condition,” two in stable condition and one was treated and released, cops said.

First responders used the jaws of life to remove people who had become trapped in their cars, WABC reported.

We have officially jumped the shark. Now even posters do not know the contents of the stories they post.

I have family in Islip who live close to Sunrise Highway, when I come to visit I can hear the speeding traffic all hours of the night. Very grateful they were home safe when this horrific accident happened.

I grew up in the Bronx and we lived in a small 3-room apartment in a six-story building which housed 48 families. Mom and Dad took us in the car on weekends to Jones Beach during the Summers 1955-1962. We would travel the Sunrise Highway through Massapequa to our destination. A lot of times there would be traffic back-ups and slowdowns, especially on the way home with our newly-acquired sunburns. We would then get to see all the beautiful homes and lawns of the residents in detail. We kids were always awestruck by the view, and could only dream about living like that.

I grew up there too. That section by the former Sunrise mall has a curve that you can’t take at 100 MPH.
