Joy Cho of Simi Valley was hiking with seven other people when she fell off the west side of Teewinot Mountain in the early morning.
She died at the scene, and her body was flown from the area by helicopter.
National Park Service officials did not say how old Cho was, what caused her to fall or how far she fell.

Nowadays people die regularly in pursuit of the perfect selfie. The best this woman’s friends and relatives can hope for now is that she was able to press the button during her descent. That final foto would be priceless.
Far enough.
Seems to be a general societal bent to get some excitement and/or the adrenalin/dopamine dump in the brain ALL the time. Just about every event seems to have to be so celebratory or dangerous.
It is why those of us who grew up in the mountains NEVER hiked alone
Let the speculation begin: Was there a boyfriend, fiancé, spouse in the group?
Photoshop.
“Nowadays people die regularly in pursuit of the perfect selfie.”
[Paraphrased] ‘The slopes of Mount Everest are littered with the dead bodies of highly motivated people.’
Some will die in hot pursuit
Fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

[Wiki] Lars Olof Göran Kropp (11 December 1966 – 30 September 2002) was a Swedish adventurer... he bicycled from Sweden to Mount Everest. He made a solo ascent of Mount Everest without bottled oxygen or Sherpa support on 23 May 1996, and bicycled part-way back to Sweden... remarkable accomplishment!
On 30 September 2002, Kropp died from head injuries when he fell 18 metres (60 feet) while ascending the Air Guitar route at Frenchman Coulee near Vantage, Washington. While being belayed by Seattle climber Erden Eruç, his protection pulled out from a crack, and the wire-gate carabiner of the next piece of protection broke. According to Eruç, Kropp died on impact. As I’m looking at this from an exciting high altitude perch of the couch cushion. Have to say, I’ve never taken a selfie.
Tetons are an easy mountain range to fall off of. Even in So Cal occasionally someone falls off a trail. There are some skinny trails next to very steep slopes.
It’s dangerous out there.
It’s dangerous out there.
Someone should put up warning signs and install guardrails.
Lol. And elevators and ramps.
At least she died doing wha.... oh never-mind

Well said. I remember reading some years ago about a 30ish aerobatic pilot. She was a divorced mother of two small boys. As she was practicing her routine on the day before the airshow, one wing snapped off. That was it. No mother for those boys.
I can’t understand parents that do vain things that are death defying. I used to do some high risk antics, but when I became a family man I knew I had new responsibilities, that changed my priorities.
Sweden isn’t known for its mountains
Glad you can find the one off. I won’t hike with you

He was kind of a inspiration to me, so was John Harlan, so was Gary hemmings, Royal Robbins all them guys.... and I don’t care if you hike with me or not.
Originally I heard that he was bouldering and fell off from about 10 ft but apparently that’s not so.
