Florida's first lady, Casey DeSantis, posted an image online of a fallen tree at the governor's mansion in Tallahassee after Hurricane Idalia blew through the area.

DeSantis wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she and her three children were at home when the tree fell, but weren't injured.

My understanding is it fell ‘ near’ the mansion, not ‘on’ the mansion

The mansion has 30 rooms and 15;000 sq ft.

I don’t think they were in much danger

During the conference, the governor said his wife had just called him, telling him about the incident.

“We’re fine. In fact, [Casey] called me about 45 minutes ago and told me, this is a really, I guess, ancient oak tree split in half and part of it fell. I don’t know that it fell on the residence per se, I think it was a little bit off to the side, so that’s going to have to be cleared,” DeSantis said.

Joe Biden will have to come out with a story now of of how his beachfront property was almost destroyed in the Hurricane of 1886.

Yeah, but Biden almost lost his wife, house, car, and cat when lightning struck his house. Seven months before he could move back in. Happened right after his son lost his life leading a bayonet charge in Iraq. Joe feels Ron’s pain.

A TV news show once showed a scene of damage in a home due to a storm. A woman’s framed engagement picture of herself and her fiance had vibrated off the cabinet in the living room and smashed face down on the hard floor due to a lightning strike that hit the roof. It was the only one in the row of pictures to fall and she worried if it was a sign.

>> We’re fine.

OH THANK GOD, RON!!!

Seriously, I AM glad the Florida First Family is OK.

But don’t go all drama queen on us; it’s pretty clear that that tree was not a threat to the residence. Or even a threat to that car below it, in the foreground.

The tree is a metaphor for his presidential campaign.

Or the time his Christmas Tree fell over and his children almost peed themselves.

I’m no arborist, but if you look at it, there was considerable rot evident. Truth be told, the tree should have been taken down a while back. The reason is because of what’s known as a “split leader”, or a V shape twin trunk growth. This allows for organic matter to build over the years and hold moisture.

Even healthy looking, strong trees sometimes just drop branches or fall over, but that particular tree was an accident waiting to happen. Careful drop pruning when young prevents this, trees that grow in a competitive forest environment sort of do this on their own to some degree, though not split leaders.

One thing people don’t quite grok, branches don’t get higher off the ground as the tree grows. Pruning allows for a better shape, better health, and more sunlight on the turf.

That’s an old oak. Too bad, there are very few old oaks left.

Wouldn’t put much stock in those stories. The dates conflict with when Biden remembers sailing across the Mississippi River with General George Washington.

Joe Biden rode out the 1900 Galveston hurricane in a Model T coupe while he made love to Queen Victoria which is why there is a town in Texas called Victoria. At least that’s what he told me in federal prison in 1957.

The governor was lucky. He could have had a kitchen fire like slow Joe Biden. /S

I see Trump has taught some of his cold hearted supporters to not care about what happened to Florida during the storm well.

Surprised no one has accused DeSantis of taking a chain saw to that tree yet. Unless I missed it.
