A family home was lit on fire after their 'electric car' reportedly exploded while sitting in their driveway.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to a family home in Bromborough, Wirral at around 10pm on Saturday night after receiving reports that a car was on fire. The blaze was put out in just ten minutes.
The Liverpool Echo reported that the façade of the two-storey family home was blackened by the fire and that the garage was also previously on fire as well.
One man told the Echo that after speaking to the owners of the car this morning they believed the cause of the fire was a 'malfunctioning electric car battery', although this has not been officially confirmed by the fire service.
He said: 'I was in bed and heard this popping noise. It sounded like fireworks going off.
'I went outside with my mum and there were bright lights with a car up in flames over the road.
'The owner was in the house when it happened but got out. She told me this morning that the car was only a month old with a thousand miles on the clock and the car battery malfunctioned.'
One woman said: 'I heard tyres popping and people came out to see what was going on. Someone started screaming and people rushed out to help.

I used to travel Texas a lot for work so I have seen some really interesting vehicle accidents including one fire. Once I was travelling North between San Antonio and Dallas on I-35. Traffic slowed so the gawkers could see a semi trailer full of furniture totally ablaze - really impressive. I never found out how the fire could have started inside the trailer ... odd.
I also once saw a cattle hauler tipper over. Many cows were wandering the road causing traffic stoppage. Of interest was a local person herding about a dozen cows down the road to what I assume was his ranch. I guess he was helping corral them for someone to claim later ... uh-huh.
What was the make and model of the EV? Tesla?
Inferno option is standard equipment.
You get it weather you want it or not.
After all the gas cars are gone, electric cars will be deemed too dangerous and banned. The goal is to take away our personal transportation.
Amazing stuff.
Storage capacity is large and internal leakage of charge is very small.
BUT charge rate and discharge rate are critical. Heating is an issue with both charging and discharging. Excess heat destroys electrolytic capacitors and batteries, the dielectric breaks down from extreme heat. Lithium ion batteries can literally explode and it is hard to extinguish the fire.
ChiComs are deeply into this. And it is still a developing field.
Is the issue quality control on the batteries, or is the issue the design of the control circuits?
My take. We are all dying from complexity, nobody can “fix stuff” any more. The “experts” cannot trouble shoot cars, rely upon internal computer system. (hint, computers are really dumb but very fast.) Simple works!
Einstein: Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid; humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant; together they are powerful beyond imagination.
The good news is, at least they won’t have to go to work in the morning.
Just wait until the do it yourself mechanic starts repairing his and friends EVs
“The article says the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes. That doesn’t sound like an electric car fire.”
Unless it was almost burned to ashes when they got there.
Batteries are even MORE UNSTABLE in SALT water.
EVERY BOVINE IN THE USA HAS MULTIPLE EAR TAGS.
ALL CAN BE TRACED TO LOCATION OF BIRTH & SUBSEQUENT TRAVELS.
But it was for climate control dear slap and groin kick ensues.
“EVERY BOVINE IN THE USA HAS MULTIPLE EAR TAGS.” - no need to yell ...
Does that explain the occasional hard to chew parts in cheap hamburger?
