This is a rural county bordering Athens, Georgia (home of the Bulldawgs). The location is very wooded with a lot of timber property and homes scattered sparsely throughout the area. It's a place where children still play outside every afternoon and evening until dark. Of course, until the bobcat is killed parents will be putting a stop to that.

I understand the injured children are being treated at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The locals will probably hunt down the bobcat and kill it sometime over the next few days. The scream of a bobcat is easy to recognize and it is a eerie sound in the dark of the night.

If you have one .... you have two
and if you have two .... you have a whole mess of em.

If your dog or cat bowl is licked clean every morning your probably feeding something besides dogs and cats.

I'm feeding possums .... fewer today then yesterday.

Rabies is pretty scary and if you see a wild animal such as a bobcat or raccoon out in daylight you can be pretty sure they are rabid. I haven’t heard how many children were injured or their ages but that had to be terrifying for them and their parents.

A few years ago, my mother walked out onto her deck and there was a raccoon on the steps snarling at her. She immediately called us and hubby went over and set a trap and caught it later that day. The raccoon was dispatched and its body burnt to cinders.

You did the right thing.
A few years back, I shot a rabid racoon and threw it in a ditch. I told a client of mine who did rabies reaserch for the state and he read me the riot act.
He said rabies virus was active in the bodies for days after death. You burn the bodies to ash.
Also, Havaheart traps are a huge rabies spreader. Suburbanites love to spread rabid animals around.

You are lucky. In our state the wild life officials only give the town of the attack.

And the teachers do not tel of classroom lice infestations. I think in both cases it is purportedly to HIPPA confidentiality. Bimut really about control and keep populace off base

However, there is the risk that the bobcat has infected other wild animals, if they survive the bobcat attack in the first place.

The sheriff thinks the more information the people have, the better job they can do in assisting him with information. A great Second Amendment supporter as well.

Here is an update to the story:

“NEW DETAILS: Bobcat attack leaves Ga. 3-year-old hospitalized with broken bones, deep wounds”

OGLETHORPE COUNTY, Ga. — North Georgia officials are warning the public to be on the lookout after a bobcat attack.

Oglethorpe County Fire and Rescue officials said on Friday at 6:30 p.m., crews received reports of an aggressive bobcat in the area of Melton Road and Williams McCurley Road in Winterville.

According to the investigation, the bobcat attacked children on two different properties.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan was in Oglethorpe County Monday, where he talked to a man whose 3-year-old granddaughter was one of the victims.

Michael Scoggins said his wife called him in hysterics Friday night to tell him their granddaughter, Crystal, had been mauled by a bobcat in the front yard while the children were outside playing.

“The cat was dragging her up under the car,” Scoggins said. “My daughter came out and grabbed the baby just as soon as she got there.”

Mae Scoggins, 13, is the child’s aunt. She said her sister ran out of the house to save the toddler.

“She just dropped down on the ground and I saw my dog and a bob cat run out from under the car,” Mae said.

Scoggins said he believe the bobcat was 40 to 50 pounds.

” Havaheart traps “

These traps are great for holding the target in one place.
“relocating” wild animals is just a slow death. Very inhumane.
And I really want some cat food eating , aggressive raccoon let loose in my woods.
Nothing worse than a wildlife “friendly” suburbanite.

Because many people think that rabies shots are very painful:

Rabies shots are not painful at all.

They are no longer given in the stomach.

I took the series of shots in my arm a few years ago and they were the least painful I’ve ever had.

Literally didn’t feel them.

“Didn’t know they could get rabid!”

They can! Now you know and can be careful out in the wild. Especially near construction sites. Bobcats are known to frequent those areas and become very destructive when approached by those wanting to interact with them. Make sure you have experience with those creatures before getting too close.

“Relocating” wild animals is just a slow death. Very inhumane.”

So many people do not realize that fact. The animal is not familiar with the terrain, and the location of water and food. There is usually a “big boss” of their species in the area in which they are dropped off and that boss will let them know they aren’t welcome. So, they usually end up injured by the boss of the area, have no established den in which to hide, and have no knowledge as to where to go for food and water. Soon they become weak and diseased and die a slow death, unless some hunter or rural “woods-walker” comes up on them and puts them out of their misery.

The same goes for domestic animals. Hubby and I (well, mainly him) have had to put several such domestic animals out of their misery when they were dropped off to go “free” when their college student owners had finished school and thought the animal would be taken in by a farm house nearby. Or sometimes it is by adult children who don’t want to take in their deceased relative’s pet. We have also saved a few of them and either kept them or found them new homes, but for the most part it is too late to save the animal by the time they are noticed. Many people are decent enough (/s) to leave their food dish with them when they drop them off on the rural dirt roads as if it will be automatically filled by the “pet food” fairy.
