This is a war against Israeli and they should be allowed to prosecute the war as they see fit.
It’s in America’s interest to make sure that the Israelis have the assets and freedom to take care of business.
It’s also in our interest to prevent the war from expanding in the region and deter aggression in the region.
Israel has more than the assets needed to “take care of business”. (Partly because we’ve been forking over billions a year for decades.)
I wouldn’t mind an American airstrike against Hamas as payback for the Americans murdered and kidnapped but broadly, it is not in our interest to go in and stir things up. That’s what Hamas wants. They want to say the “real” enemy is big bad America blah blah blah and take the focus off the fact that they just committed sickening war crimes against civilians which brought this on.
This is Israel’s fight. Support them with intel and weapons if they need the help. Otherwise, a punitive airstrike against Hamas is about as far as I would go.
If the lives of U.S. citizens in Israel make this "our war," then I hope Shapiro and all his sycophants here are prepared for a scenario where the U.S. government orders Israel to stand down so we can negotiate with Hamas for the release of our citizens.
Over the last few days I've seen a complete logical contradiction in some of the posts on this topic.
1. "Israel should bulldoze Gaza into the sea and/or turn it into glass."
2. "This is a matter of national interest for the U.S. because Hamas has prisoners who are U.S. citizens."
You can’t have it both ways. Either Israel ignores the concerns of other governments about their own citizens and destroys Gaza, or it makes its own actions subject to the oversight of those governments (namely ours).
