Rest In Peace, Bob.
“When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my a**!” Robert Montgomery Knight
‘nuff said?
He could have stopped there, and no more would need to be said.
It can be a very emotional game. Playing ball 40 years ago it was a level playing field.
I remember my coaches getting the very best from me.
It wasn’t pretty for those outside looking in. I loved it.
Bobby Knight had that as well as Woody Hayes when he punched that Clemson player.
It was a great time to learn and perform.
Say what you want but most of Knight’s players went on to graduate. That was a big deal for him. Lot different today, eh. And, IU played honest to god man-to-man defense.
I think I remember reading that he was one of the few major college coaches who never had an NCAA investigation. He also had one of the highest graduation rates among the major college athletic programs.
On balance a good man but his frequent bouts of seething rage on the basketball court we’re really unforgivable. Most of us outgrew that sort of stuff long before puberty. Like I said, on balance a good man, flawed like all of us.
