California middle-class families hit with $26K cost-of-living penalty: report

Middle-class families in California are getting slammed with an "unreasonable" cost-of-living-penalty for simply residing in the Golden State, according to a new report.

According to data from the Transparency Foundation's Cost of California Report, a typical middle-class family of three earning $130,000 a year faces a financial burden of more than $26,000 because of higher living expenses.

The nonpartisan group's report compares costs such as housing, utilities, food, gas, child care and health care, in every major household budget category between California and national averages.

The foundation's data showed that on every household budget, the cost to live in California is exponentially higher compared with the national average, according to Transparency Foundation Chairman Carl DeMaio, who laid blame on "costly mandates and bad policies."

For a family earning $130,000 annually and paying average income taxes of $42,813, they are left with a total net income of $7,265.58 a month.

The group estimated that the total monthly cost of living in California is just over $9,200. Meanwhile, the total monthly cost of living if paying national averages would be $7,034.87, the report said.

Not only do middle-class families face a penalty of $26,478.72 versus if they simply paid the national average costs in each category, but the report said they will also end up running an annual deficit of $23,710.20.

However, if costs were in line with the national average in each category, those families would instead have an annual surplus of $2,768.52, according to the report.

They can’t. They’re subsidized.

Socialism eliminates the middle class.

I heard they’re given 2 grand. Not near what this family of three is getting and they are having issues. I can’t imagine trying to live on two grand even in Florida it’d be tough. Sure they get healthcare and junky housing too. But 2 grand? I’d never pick California if I were illegal.

🧐 Government assistance, work off books, no taxes, live cheaply, don’t follow laws like “insurance for cars”..... etc.....

The only reason to live in one of these high-cost places is to make the high salary. If you’re not being paid at least 50-60% more than the same job would pay in a low-cost area, it doesn’t make sense.

When I worked, it was New York City. My salary was high, and I bought my apartment cheap, didn’t have a car, and lived on very little. I saved a ton, and left immediately when I retired.

Recent poll results on Gavin showed his lowest approval / highest disapproval ever although the decline started in 2020 when he violated his Covid orders.

My office is in Pacoima, In the corner house up the street lives a family of 6 Illegal Aliens. Mama gets all the goodies for her and her children and claims to be unmarried and living alone. Her husband works construction under the table. 3 years ago he bought a new Corvette and she is driving a New Lexus now. All on the Taxpayer Dime.

NO government agency will ever address this blatant FRAUD

It's not a burden if you opt to live there.

10 years ago an illegal told me he collected welfare in 6 states while he was putting a roof on a neighbor’s House.

I would think this has been made impossible with databases and fedgov connections right?

Ya. Probably not.

And likely all they would have to do is cross the welfare records with the DMV records.

My wife was reading over my shoulder when I mentioned that. She said, in our state they exempt the first car. When I asked for clarification she meant it didn’t matter if it was brand new or what it was it was exempt because they needed a car to get to where they were going. Our welfare system needs some serious reform. Starting with non-citizens who currently receive it. They should be cut off immediately
