First vaccine for chikungunya virus, an 'emerging global health threat,' gets FDA approval

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday announced its approval of Ixchiq, the first chikungunya vaccine.

The vaccine, which is made by Valneva, is approved for anyone age 18 and older who has a risk of being exposed to the virus.

The chikungunya virus is transmitted to people through bites from infected mosquitoes.

"This virus is in a similar category as dengue or Zika and is carried by the same mosquitoes," noted Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Fox News medical contributor.

The FDA described chikungunya as an "emerging global health threat," with at least five million cases reported over the past 15 years.

"Infection with chikungunya virus can lead to severe disease and prolonged health problems, particularly for older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions," said Peter Marks, M.D., PhD, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, in a press release on Thursday.

"Today’s approval addresses an unmet medical need and is an important advancement in the prevention of a potentially debilitating disease with limited treatment options," he also said.

Before the FDA’s approval, the vaccine’s safety was tested in clinical trials that included 3,500 adults.

Participants most commonly reported headache, muscle pain, fatigue, joint pain, nausea, fever and tenderness at the injection site as side effects.

A small share of recipients (1.6%) experienced adverse reactions, with two of the recipients needing to be hospitalized, per the FDA’s release.

Why do I somehow suspect Bill Gates when a vaccine for a mosquito-spread virus is involved?

“Chikungunya” needs a better marketing brand consultant.

mRNA bioweapon?

You don’t know what mRNA does, do you?

Are you aware that during a virus infection, viruses force cells all over your body to make mRNA and then virus proteins. After forcing your cells to make mRNA, virus proteins, and eventually new viruses, they kill your cells.

Don’t be worried about the tiny spec of mRNA in a vaccine. Be worried about the tons of mRNA you get during a virus infection.

So sad that science education is so lacking in the US. If people had even a rudimentary understanding of biology, antivax liars would never get away with calling mRNA a bioweapon.

This will be of use in the countries where chikungunya is endemic. Unless it starts infecting mosquitos in the US, only travelers will need this vaccine if they are traveling to an affected country.

Chikungunya is not typically fatal. But it can cause lasting neurological damage and joint pain.

I’ll take my chances with any virus that should come my way.

The FDA and CDC have lost all credibility with the general public over this Chicom Virus Vaccine atrocity.

I’ll listen to the experts that have reported from the beginning of the use of the MRna Vaccines that they were dangerous and they were proved correct by News agencies and Governments that had mandatory Covid Vaccine Injections and now they regret not only making the vaccines mandatory. they also regret the thousands of vaccine caused deaths and injuries.

Someone in government needs to pay with some prison time for producing the ChiCom virus in the first place when it was banned by the Congress.

“ Is it related to the Zika virus that we don’t hear about any more?”

Kinda.

Another rapidly mutating single stranded RNA virus. Clinically similar to Dengue and Zika. Like both, spread by mosquitoes.

The “relatedness” of viruses is constantly getting revised because, unlike bacteria and other living things they need to live inside a cell and use its mechanisms to reproduce.

“ Chicom Virus”

Why call it that? It’s from Bethesda MD and North Carolina.
