Skip the picture window, and put in the equivalent sqare footage of gun ports.
Modern construction should always include a defensive slant, the time is coming.
Ponder if you can afford an atrium, and what size and style would fit the budget.
If I was a young man, that would be the business I would get into.........................
It "could be".
But it's not.
Windows are more expensive than walls. Server racks don't need sunlight.
It's just a good economic decision.
Interesting idea. Then you could change the style and color of your house as often as you want.
/s (sort of)
I can’t imagine living in a home without big windows. You’d hate my place. More than half the cost of a major remodel was windows. One southern exposure is nothing but windows. Floor to vaulted ceiling, wall to wall window. Love it. If they want to spy on me, we’ll give them something to watch.
Natural light is paramount to humans
Maybe not to lizards
Why do you think they call it the hole in prison
But be my guest
All new construction requires installation of an Amazon Alexa with the FBI/CIA back door, don’t worry about the window. /s
Yes I would not build big windows facing big sun anywhere south of prolly bowling green ky

We had to get awnings it’s just too much
I can’t imagine Vegas or Tucson

They pierce vinyl coated particle board, too, which is what most houses are made of these days.
I live in a bunker.
My house is concrete block, I added regular insulated and sheetrocked walls to the inside of that and the windows are horizontal and start about 55 inches from the floor, except for the southern big kitchen picture window where I can see the mountains on that side and can start my seeds growing in the winter.
Jul 4th stray bullets are not a big concern to me at night.
After we moved into our current home, decades ago, we added a master Bedroom and a great family room where we spend most of our life before and after retirement.
Our great Architect grew up in this area. He suggested that our new family room have big windows on the East and West side for natural light.
So, we opted for triple paned big windows in our new family room with no inside drapes. We have outside/insulated outdoor draw curtains on our west side to protect against too much sun in our hot months.
We have a separate HVAC system for the family room and our master bedroom and a separate control.
Since the retro we spend our waking hours in our natural lighted family room at 67/68 degrees.
The rest of our home is on a separate HVAC and is kept at 60 degrees unless we have guests.
curtains and blinds
sounds to me like what you really need is a bunker ...
Kicking in a door is much safer on the burglar than jagged glass from a window and less noticeable to the neighbors.
But you do as you like. There is no law against it.
People who can afford it should consider something that is very popular in Southern California, a part of the house that is outdoors, a sort of finished patio with some open walls, a blending of the home and the patio with real furniture and living comfort.
In cooler climates, some well-placed radiant floor heat and radiant heat run through benches and short walls coupled with patio heaters could make that space interesting for a lot of the year.

PGE ranks us as one of the most efficient homes in our area.
The main thing is that we are comfortable for all seasons. In the late fall to early we wear vests if it is cool and wool socks.
