The result was solid enough but the eventual celebration with the entire group pf players singing the Star-Spangled Banner was refreshing and inspirational. I can't find a link but it is worth an effort to see this display. For a bunch of 18 and 19 year-olds to sing the lyrics and smile broadly was awesome.

Its hockey- they are usually tough, hard working kids who come from tough, hard working blue collar families.

I played hockey as a kid- my dad, who was NYPD, would work the 4 to 12 shift then get up at 4:30am because he had to drive me to my game at 5:30 in the morning.

That may have been true in 1980, but not so much anymore.

In the U.S. these days, hockey players are more likely to come from wealthy families that can afford the exorbitant cost of summer hockey camps, travel teams, and top prep schools.

I went to summer hockey camp, sleep away camps, and i was on the travel team that went to Switzerland. Yeh there were some uber rich kids- one specifically who arrived in a chauffeured vehicle every Saturday, yet the majority were blue collar families.

We’re close in age. I played for two years at Trinity Pawling after the Saints. I played at Ebersol a few times and DHR as well. The worst one I played in was that rink alongside the Thruway in Yonkers...

I actually almost went to Trinity Pawling for hockey but at that time in my life i was making the move to track and field and they only had a club team
