Mount Vernon Police District – The dedicated efforts of our Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) detectives led to the arrest of two, the recovery of a stolen vehicle, and the discovery of a key programming tool.

On January 8, ACE detectives and a K9 officer found an unoccupied stolen Dodge Charger in the Groveton area of Mt. Vernon. The detectives swiftly implemented an investigation and devised a plan of action after learning that the vehicle had been stolen two days prior from La Plata, Maryland.

During surveillance, the detectives observed a second vehicle approaching the stolen Charger, eventually parking behind it. The passenger from the second vehicle entered the Charger and detectives moved in for the arrest. The detectives safely took both suspects into custody.

A search of both vehicles revealed a key programming tool, two reprogrammed key fobs for the stolen Charger, auto parts from the stolen Charger, and additional vehicle parts in the trunk.

Kevin Piratova, 23, and Yalizmar Moro Flores, 26, both of Maryland, were charged with Grand Larceny, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny, and Receiving Stolen Property. Following their arrest, Piratova and Flores were taken to the ADC and each given a $3,000 secure bond.

FCPD urges the community to remain vigilant for suspicious vehicles. Indicators include broken or smashed passenger windows, tampered ignitions, or USB cables plugged into the ignition. Residents are encouraged to report such activity to the non-emergency number at 703-691-2131.

With some simple precautions, you can greatly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of auto theft crimes:

· Lock your car and refrain from leaving keys inside.
· Park in well-lit public places.
· Keep windows rolled up when parked.
· Install car alarm systems and GPS devices.
· Avoid leaving personal belongings in the car.
· Never leave a running car unattended.
· Secure spare keys in inconspicuous locations.
· Utilize security cameras and floodlights.
· Be aware of your surroundings.
· Refrain from storing personal documents in your vehicle.

My money’s on Colombia. Especially given the surname of his little squeeze Yalizmar Moro Flores.

It’s about time someone did something about freight-on-board fraud! It’s been hurting women and children for far too long, and I, for one will simply no...

Wait, what’s that...?

Oh.

Nevermind.

I wondered the same and thought maybe the article was connected to stolen cars being shipped by container from the Port of Baltimore.

I love how they blame the victim. Start executing car thieves like they did for horse thieves and the problem will disappear overnight.

If execution is too messy, twenty years at hard labor will work. Make them build their own shelter and grow their own food.

A couple of foreigners committing crimes against Americans.

We seriously need to deport the millions of illegal aliens and close our borders for 100 years.

Isn’t $3000 like something you’d get for spitting on the sidewalk? Who ever set that bond should also be going to jail. Another thing a car owner can do to help prevent theft is to drive an older more theft proof car & keep the fancy one locked away when you aren’t actually driving it....if this is possible.
