Parliament and Congress not being consulted over military action in the Middle East

I dont care if I'm in a clear minority or find myself agreeing with the likes of the squad but Parliament and Congress not being consulted about military action that means an escalation of a conflict in the Middle East is disgraceful.

Our elected Reps should have a say even Bush knew this in 2003 and though I was against Bush and the war it was authorized in some fashion.

A terrible precedent is being set where presidents can bomb any country they want, whenever they want and this is wrong.

This is not how things should be done and it has never been done like this...

The UK opposition Labor leader and the US House speaker dont care and support this action .

The whole thing stinks to me!

Am I alone??

No. But what does the Obama...sorry...Biden administration care about Constitutionality? And who will object and be able to do anything about it?

“A terrible precedent is being set where presidents can bomb any country they want, whenever they want and this is wrong.”

Jefferson sent the U.S. Navy to the coast off Tripoli without authorization from Congress and authorizing the navy to respond if their vessels were struck. Yes, he later asked Congress for further autorization but did not wait for Congress in the initial sense.

I think Jefferson - the 3rd President, set the precedent.

You would think in particular the House speaker and UK opposition leader to not be happy and would want their bodies to be consulted

Just awful and no one knows where this will go

They’re not using that as their argument they’re trying to say they can do it because the president has authority under AUMF

God help us. Future and perhaps current presidents will use this an excuse for further actions.

This would not happen under Trump. He even confirmed it in a post.

Just another marker of the dictatorship that seized DC in the 2020 coup. They don’t even bother to pretend to follow the rules anymore.

Inaccurate and very misleading. He went to congress to raise that navy, for that very purpose. Typical DC doublespeak.

“This would not happen under Trump. He even confirmed it in a post.”

B.S. Trump took similar actions in Syria, without asking Congress if he could.

Parliament and Congress not being consulted over military action in the Middle East

____________________________________________________

We [The US] fake having oversight on the executive branch to make the masses feel like there are “separations of power”. That way we can teach it in high school civics classes and make everyone feel proud that they live in a country that has “checks and balances”. The nice thing is that this fools most US citizens into believing it all their lives. Only the fairly smart ones realize that it’s mostly a hoax.

Tough kitties! The U.S. isn’t a republic. Congress needs to sit down, shut up, and do whatever pedojoe says.

I think we’ll have to disagree he was very clear in his post and others on the right have condemned these actions though we’re in a tiny minority it seems.

These things can spiral out of control and escalate this is what concerns me and why the reps should be consulted even if they consent.

Do you believe in shooting back if attacked?

We’re bombing a country I generally think cooler heads should prevail

They’re now having mass rallies against the West and their despot regime is now even in firmer command and promising reprisals

It’s not really clever

LOL The Houthi attacks have been spiriling out of control for weeks, with the Houthis getting bolder and more agressive in thos actions over time.

THEY have created the “escalation” because western responses have been so weak.

I don’t think the current actions western nations took went far enough. They did not go after enough Houthi command and control spots.

“he was very clear in his post and others on the right have condemned these actions”

Yet, as I said, when he was President he took similar actions in Syria without asking Congress if he could.

Bring the case to Congress if it’s so good and you’re so confident in it

That is the point...
