My favorite version of "Blues in the Night" is Anne Shelton's. Her singing brings forth a feeling of a sense of place--when I hear her, I imagine being somewhere in the lower Mississippi Valley at night in the years before diesel locomotives--even though she lived about 5,000 miles northeast of there.
