Depends on what they’re foraging on. If it’s primarily acorns, just drag them into a hole and walk away.

How does feral hog taste compared to domestic hog?

I've had wild boar steaks in Germany, and I prefer it to regular pork. It has a gamy taste, sort of like venison.

The Sows and piglets are pretty good, the boars, are not so good.

I have heard it is pretty bad in comparison. I have alswo heard they capture them and feed them domestic feed for awhile and it cleans out some of the game taste.

The young and sows are tasty. Old boars taste foul.

You want to capture / kill the piglets unless you want a breeding population. Since they do not I do not understand why they are trapping the old and letting the young slip through to freedom. That is exactly what you do not want to do if you are looking to eliminate them.

I’ve had it many times. Coworkers would bring in smoked sausage they would make from it. Never did develop a taste for wild boar, tho. To me, it did have a gamey flavor like others mentioned. But the standout thing was it seemed to have dirt in the meat. Just the flavor, not grit. Even when feeding them out for several months never helped with the sense of the meat being dirty...yuck.

A few years ago I spotted wild boar ribs for sale at a meat store. A few days later I came back and got them for dinner that night. Tasted DELICIOUS! I agree with others, it probably depends on what it’s been eating. A natural gamy taste pretty much describes it. Very venison-y.

Leaner. Less fat. The meat is tougher but if you slow cook it a bit longer than farm pork it’s fine. If it’s used for pulled pork there’s really little difference.

They are so full of worms and parasites that in order to eat them they have to be quarantined for a period of time BEFORE they are butchered. During that time of quarantine they are wormed, detoxed and whatever else they need. Besides, in my entire life I have NEVER heard anyone say how great they taste. I understand most of meat is sold to China. They will eat anything.

Nasty! Here in the Ozarks feral hogs are shot and let lay as they are almost all infected with Psudorabies.

After you shoot one and see that their skin is literally crawling with ticks, flees and lice, I’m not eating that!

In Europe they hunt the Central European Boar. It crosses state boundaries. As a result, some of them wandered through Chernobyl and are slightly radioactive. People do eat them.
