Vladimir Putin and the Monroe Doctrine
WND ^ | February 19, 2024 | Scott Lively

As we approach the second anniversary of the NATO-provoked Russian military invasion of Ukraine, and the world is finally getting to hear Russia's side of the story thanks to the courageous journalist Tucker Carlson, I would like to republish my article of March 23, 2022, that might have saved us all from two years of war propaganda and social manipulation had it gotten that kind of exposure and had conservatives adopted its quintessentially American talking points.

Why? First, because it summarizes the history and reasoning of our own Monroe Doctrine as the most logical basis for comparing Russia's demands, and second, because it links to Vladimir Putin's "Empire of Lies" speech on the night of the invasion – explaining in his own words why Russia had no choice but to take military action in Ukraine, citing specific, systematic and factually verifiable U.S. and NATO provocations.

In 1823, when the emperor of Tzarist Russia invited the United States to negotiate a resolution of contested coastal lands along the northwest of the North American continent, President James Monroe responded with a proclamation in an address to Congress that would forever-after be called the Monroe Doctrine. In his own words, he said that when "the rights and interests of the United States are involved … the American continents … are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers.

We owe it, therefore, to candor and to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety..."

Good article. We, the US, started this whole thing. Neocon hegemony.

We’re not in charge of the world. And we’re not “Team America, World Police!”

We are, what, 34 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt!

We need out of NATO completely, move the UN out of the US, pull our troops out of other countries, and Mind Our Own Business!!!

And fire 9 out of 10 federal workers, period.

The globohomos and neocons have taken the Monroe Doctrine world wide. It’s that corrupt thug, the world policeman, don’t you know? Putin had to explain that Russia did not want to be under the Monroe Doctrine umbrella. Expect to be flamed by the usual crew beating their dead Winston Zelensky horse.

Does anyone else remember that before the Soviet Union put missiles in Cuba the U.S. put missiles in Turkey and that part of the solution to the “Cuban Missile Crisis” was the removal of our missiles from Turkey?

Obama told Putin he would do whatever he wanted when he got reelected. He gave Putin the okay to invade, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.

So you think the U.S. should invade half of Europe to tell them what to do? You really want this much war?

What a bunch of nonsense. Putin cannot accept Ukrainian independence from Russia. He saw an opportunity to correct “Lenin’s mistake” and took. All the other rationalizations are just hogwash.

The USSR was always 100 percent wrong during the Cold War, just like the left is 100 percent wrong now.

If Russia invades Poland , being a nato country , this forces USA to send troops to defend it.

No choice , that’s the nato agreement. Whether you like it or not

All freepers who advocated for a Russian win are complicit in sending American troops to die for Europe. You are all pathetic, it’s not your sons and daughters I guess

Why didn’t Putin invade Ukraine under Trump? Because Biden made Putin rich.

I haven’t heard that from Russia - might you have a link?
