Hi everyone. It may be already a fait accompli.. My brother in law, a former Buffalo Cop suffered a stroke last week and is going to be taken off his respirator this afternoon. He is a good guy who fought the good fight. He is a family man, and he could be funny as hell whenever there was a family get together. He is 64, and he is a good friend. If you have a second, perhaps you can remember him in your prayers.

My father had a stroke. In the end it was decided to take him off of life support. He had made it very clear many times that he never wanted a mere existence without hope of recovery if that's what medicine left him with.
It fell to me to sign the do not resuscitate order. He passed away several hours later.
It hurts. But if it makes you feel any better, this is an act of supreme love. To let someone go in peace when all else has failed (a few years earlier it was my mom in similar circumstances).
