“Do you know what INCEPTION was about? I am still confused...”

What was it about? The power of dreams and the power of redemption?! I don't know. Regardless it was one helluva entertainig flick!

If anyone's interested, I just watched Cavalcade (1933) for the first time.

Good movie, but I thought the final scene's lecture was intended to be agitprop about the concerns from the beginnings of the Weimar Republic in Germany.

Nice that “In Memorium” tried to cover everyone for a change. Not good that whoever directed that segment had the camera pulled too far back to see the screen right.

Yes, it was a good try...But...They should do a better job next time...

OPPENHEIMER won the Best Picture...One of the people on stage mentioned James Woods...

There was no Joe Biden joke from Jimmy Kimmel...

Did President Trump actually post his Oscar show reaction on social media? Jimmy Kimmel read some social media post which was critical of his performance as the host...

Kimmel is a POS. Main reason I didn’t want to watch tonight. MY daughters wanted to chat about it so I had to tune in.

Whether he was a communist was debatable.... a starry-eyed idealist is more realistic I think.

They’re way ahead timewise. I wouldn’t have expected Best Picture til after midnight.

Unlike last year, the show started at 7 pm Eastern Time...The show usually starts at 8 pm Eastern Time...

I am not surprised that President Trump decided to watch the Academy Awards show...

I think that he was always interested in what was going on in Hollywood...

After all, he had a show on TV...He also played himself in I'LL TAKE MANHATTAN...

Everything thing a Libturd attacks Trump, it serves to remind those watching of the way Trump is being treated, and when the commercials air a few minutes later people are reminded they can’t afford what the Left is selling under yBiden for 4 more years.

Oppenheimer, a determined Leftist and almost certainly a communist and source for Soviet spies, regarded the bomb as justified if used against the Nazis but not if used against Japan. The distinguishing aspect was that use against of the A bomb the Nazis would help Stalin and the Soviets but impede their chances to control Japan if used to prompt an earlier surrender. And, as Truman knew, A bombing Japan saved hundreds of thousands of American lives.

Is this the first time a Toho made Godzilla movie has won an Academy award?

Haven’t seen any of the movies up for awards this year. The only ones I’m interested in seeing are Oppenheimer and The Holdovers.

I was wondering if Will Smith would make an appearance, but it seems he has been ‘banned’ for ten years.

Who cares anymore? The Oscars used to be fun decades ago. There used to be Oscar watching parties. I can’t even remember the last time I watched The Oscars.

Oppenheimer, a determined Leftist and almost certainly a communist and source for Soviet spies...

As they had Oppenheimer under strictest surveillance and surely were reading all his mail and screening his calls BEFORE the project I can't see where you're getting your information.

That WAS an era where too many were blacklisted being in the wrong place at the wrong time when too many in high government positions actually spying for the Soviets lived, got traitor money and died never being found out.

For an introduction to the subject, consider: Was Oppenheimer a Soviet Spy? A Roundtable Discussion Notably, the best evidence -- that of the Soviet era spy archives -- remains closed, but the trend of disclosures increasingly favors the view that Oppenheimer was a Soviet spy or a knowing source for them in one sense or another even if not formally enrolled as a spy.

That reference to Draft Dodging seems to be anti-woke, as it is a subject they don’t want to discuss, IMO.

John Fund weighed in yesterday on Oppenheimer:

the Oppenheimer question

Naive idealist? Useful idiot? Conscious fellow traveler? Hidden party member? Spy?

During the 1920's and 30's, the blurring of the lines was deliberate. The CPUSA was legal and aboveground. The espionage apparatus was secret, but the chiefs wanted to make smoke to camouflage the spies: "nobody here but good American liberals, and anyone who says otherwise is a Reds-under-the-bed conspiracy theorist. And still today, writers on the left often throw up the dupes, useful idiots and fellow travelers to deflect attention from the spies and conflate it all into a diatribe about McCarthyite Red hunting.

I've always been agnostic about Oppenheimer. Fund reports that the Venona intercepts may implicate him as having been a secret Party member, at least for a time. Many of his associates, including his wife, mistress, and brother were party members; he swam in that sea. That doesn't make him a spy, but it is relevant to the question of his security clearance, given that he had lied to the FBI about several details of his communist acquaintances.
