Over-the-Counter ‘Diet Weed’ Is the New Go-To for Teens, Worrying Scientists — and Symptoms Are Hard to Spot
New York Post ^ | March 15, 2024 | Alex Mitchell

New medical research in the Journal of the American Medical Association has found that 11% of high school seniors admit to using a prevalent and easily accessible synthetic marijuana, known as delta-8 THC.

That number translates to “at least one or two students in every average-sized high school class,” according to Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

A lack of federal regulation means there’s no age restriction on the over-the-counter product, found readily in gas stations, online and in convenience stores in many states — leaving experts worried.

Well if they’re using it then they’ll suffer the results.

Delta 8 is expensive for what it does and a very poor substitute for real weed (which BTW is plentiful).

It’s hemp.
It looks like cannabis, but it only a poor cousin.

“It’s hemp.

It is not hemp, it is some kind of plant material sprayed with who knows what kind of unregulated synthetic chemicals.

Just say “Oh Hell No” to Fauci’s lettuce

Delta-8 products are not controlled by the Feds, and are legal in most states. I tried a few gummies to help with sleep a couple of years ago. Didn’t really help with sleep, a slight high, but nothing compared to the pot I used back in the ‘70s. I tossed the remainder of the package.

Downside, Delta-8 will return a positive result on a test for marijuana use. Didn’t help with sleep, didn’t make me feel good, why bother?

Why do they call it ‘diet weed’? The only thing I saw in the article that might explain that is the possible side effect of vomiting...

I don’t use any of it....prefer having control over myself.

Check this out, from 2023...

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol: a scoping review and commentary

Note this bit...

...Most research on delta-8 THC is largely anecdotal, not peer-reviewed and does not involve human subjects. Future research should examine delta-8 THC use using nationally representative samples to more clearly understand the prevalence and consequences of use. Laws are needed to mitigate the risks of using delta-8 THC, particularly quality control of synthesis and minimum purchase age...

And it's use is legal.

Really public health minded of Deep State, eh?

dDlta-8 THC comes from hemp but is also produced in labs.

Don’t notice all of the government aiding illegal alien invaders to steal your country. Pay all of your attention to the war on a mild drug less impairing than alcohol.

Typical of the hand-wringers. For decades they’ve been crying “weed has gotten so much stronger, it’s not the old days”. Now they’re freaking out over weak weed. In the end what they’re really worried about is people having fun.

You know it must be good when it is sold at inner city gas stations.

Stop posting garage. It is derived from the CBD in hemp. Legality varies from state to state.

It’s called “diet weed” because it’s not as potent as the real stuff (slimmed down version, in other words). As for the effect on weight, ironically, diet weed can make ya really hungry.

Sounds like a student-priced fake pot that probably sells much cheaper than the real stuff.
