NBC/Biden campaign
Young, white/black, Americans
we’re forced out of the
construction trades long
ago by cheap illegal
labor and greedy contractors.
Pay Americans a liveable
wage and they’ll fill the
ranks.
I believe it’s still
illegal to hire illegals
and pay them under the table.
They have stopped working construction because crime is more rewarding.
The Bush family would know this if they ever listened to Americans.
Construction slowing down has absolutely NOTHING to do with foreign labor.
And everything to do with interest rates.
I did my framing time in the late 70’s.
The story was different but it ended the same.
I was smart enough to go back to college and never looked back.
“My son, an operations manager for a good size consyruction company will tell you...whiteys can’t pass drug tests, don’t show up for interviews, are not reliable...etc. He wishes it were not so...”
A good friend has been building pools in CA for 40 years.
He says the same thing. With the addition they are hoping to get a BS injury to draw Workman’s Comp.
We didn’t pick the lowest bid. They were in the middle and not inexpensive. Why the assumption without asking first?
While m not in any way supportive of illegal immigrants this is correct
Have a number of friends still in construction and the citizens who can show up and don’t have major substance or criminal issues start their own businesses very few want to simply work as a professional laborer
Last house I built there was no immigrant labor and the locals were often talented but constantly hungover or stoned all day, wanted double the prevailing wage and constantly not showing up, especially during hunting season or when the weather was nice, about a third insisted on cash as they were drawing disability as well
Don’t know what the answer is but it’s clearly not easy or obvious unless people are going to be willing to pay 2x -3x per square foot than they are now
Yeah, not gonna lie, I was grateful for the experience. I was grateful for the pay. And the bronze tan and physical conditioning was nice as well (you don't see many fatties building houses) but it wasn't something I'd want to do day after day, year after year.
Oh, I got that completely, sir. Just engaging in conversation!
Yep white construction workers weren’t unreliable, they got replaced with cheaper models by the construction companies.
Outsourced, or insourced by illegals, however you want to say it
Nowadays with white/white male hatred stoked to an all time high with corporate and school spomsored DEI BS, they have active policies not to hire them.
“Dwindling immigration puts squeeze on home building”
Hey, just use DEI to hire folks to design and build new homes and let the new owners worry about them collapsing next year.
There is a reason why the company I retired from in September had problems finding enough workers to fully staff THREE manufacturing plants we have in Mexico and why damn near zero northbound migrants applied for the jobs available there.
I worked in the home building industry for years and saw legions of illegals take construction jobs. The builders knew damn well they were hiring people who had no right to be here but their excuse is always “We don’t hire illegals. We have no control over who our subcontractors hire’’.
Bingo! We have a winner!!
Oh, I fugues you had. Just confirming that you are correct.
🙂👍
Figured. Darn fat fingers.
Yet homes were more affordable then than now.
I think if builders started paying $27/hr, they'd have more than enough Americans to do the work.
I think you’re right.
I wonder if ICE would do a site inspection if asked. Probably not, but just telling the contractor that it would happen might help. At some point I’m going to have to have some work done on our house, and I don’t want to be paying illegals for anything.
