While m not in any way supportive of illegal immigrants this is correct
Have a number of friends still in construction and the citizens who can show up and don’t have major substance or criminal issues start their own businesses very few want to simply work as a professional laborer
Last house I built there was no immigrant labor and the locals were often talented but constantly hungover or stoned all day, wanted double the prevailing wage and constantly not showing up, especially during hunting season or when the weather was nice, about a third insisted on cash as they were drawing disability as well
Don’t know what the answer is but it’s clearly not easy or obvious unless people are going to be willing to pay 2x -3x per square foot than they are now
The whiteys who can pass drug tests and will show up for interviews and are reliable already have jobs, they aren’t in construction though.
