Columbus Drive could become Barack Obama Drive under proposed ordinance (CHICAGO)

A City Council member wants to rename Columbus Drive in downtown Chicago after former President Barack Obama, but an Italian American civic leader wants the street to be left alone.

At Wednesday's City Council meeting, 4th Ward Ald. Lamont Robinson introduced an ordinance to rename Columbus Drive Barack Obama Drive. The road stretches through the Loop from East Grand Avenue south to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Take John Lewis Freedom Parkway past A. Philip Randolph to MLK drive and turn right, pass W.E.B. DeBois Lane and park in the Rosa Parks Blvd. public lot and walk directly across Malcolm X Plaza and me at the Soul Town ribs place.

There’s already one on the south side of Chicago. It replaced South Park Way which had prior replaced the original name of Grand Boulevard.
