Fan Who Caught Shohei Ohtani's First Dodgers Home Run Ball Says She Was Pressured to Give Up Ball (Extorted by Dodgers).

Interview with Amber Roman who caught Shohei Ohtani’s first home run as a Dodger at Dodger Stadium last night (Wednesday, April 3).

I post it because she was essentially extorted in to giving up the ball to Dodger staff.

Security immediately went and got her, took her in to a room, would not allow her husband, or anyone else, to accompany her.

They then told her if she did not give them the ball that the Dodgers would not authenticate it and it would be worthless.

That there is illegal.

The whole thing stinks.

I post the pertinent transcript excerpt in the comment section.

they were like no if if you're going 4:41 to keep it he's not he's not willing to 4:43 sign for it and we we won't 4:45 authenticated for you so at that moment 4:48 them telling me that that's kind of when 4:50 I was like okay well how much is this 4:53 ball really worth if it's not going to 4:54 be authenticated and he's not siging it 4:57 so then that's when I asked okay well 4:59 what what is he willing to trade me for 5:01 it and at first the what they offered 5:04 was the two signed baseball caps and 5:0

Was it really worth losing dozens of fans over this?
It’s just a ball to the stadium, but very special to the person who got the ball.

False imprisonment, false arrest.

As if anyone cares about bazeball and the incredible tedium.

Yeah, my TV sports addicted lawyer brother is one of them.

Wanted to watch some game when he visited me here in Hawaii, rather than go on a cruise on my boat along the coast.

Could have DVR’d the damn thing, but no.

No surprise we do not talk to each other in years, finally realized how strange he was.

If some rent-a-cop tries to detain me in a “little room” there’s going to be a problem, and it’s not going to be my problem.

When I was a teenager my buddy and I witnessed Dodger security roughing up a drunken fan. They didn’t realize we were watching them from above.

She ended up getting two Ohtani signed hats, an Ohtani signed baseball, and a signed Ohtani game used baseball bat.

So it isn't exactly like she was just forced to return the ball, she did get something of value in return, just not the homerun ball that was speculated to be worth up to $100,000 at auction.

That may be. But if they wouldn’t let her go then that was kidnapping and they should be charged and jailed for it, and the Dodgers should be sued.

She should have requested her signature also be on the ball to authenticate that it is the actual ball she caught and they didn’t substitute it later.

I don't see what the big deal is, at least the girl got a signed ball and bat. He's already got 53 HR's and the only one noteworthy was his first MLB homer with the Angels....

The signed ball they gave her could have some significance in the fact that it was a replacement for his first HR as a Dodger. Other than that,it's just one of the many more to come.

I'm not a baseball fan, but what in the world would make that ball be worth $100K?

This is emblematic of the rot that has corrupted all professional sports, and there are hordes of idiots that insist on handing obscene amounts of cash to these businesses directly or through media companies so they can pay people like Ohtani $700 million over the term of his contract.
