A massive Queens redevelopment project that includes a 7-story soccer stadium for the professional New York City Football Club and 1,400 “affordable” apartments was expected to receive final approval from the City Council on Thursday.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards will join Mayor Eric Adams and local Councilman Francisco Moya on Thursday to celebrate the breakthrough on the project in the Willets Point section of the borough.

“We’ve scored a goal!” said Richards, a staunch proponent of the project. “We’re bringing the world’s sport to the world’s most diverse borough. I’m rooting for NYCFC to win the championship. Queens is ready to collect its trophy!”

It will be divine justice if the project collapses and they have to bring in Trump to save the day on time and under budget.

So they’re turning it into a crime ridden neighborhood before the first shovel of dirt is turned..

About 15% of the affordable units will be set aside for homeless individuals.

Hey family - let's spend $600 to go to a soccer game in a low--rent and homeless area!

Also, no mention in the article who is paying for all this great free stuff!

“The 25,000-person venue is expected to open by 2027.”

I’ll take the over.

Public funding of sports venues is a form of corruption.

It should be a death penalty offense to be involved in such an enterprise.

They should use artificial turf. If they use real turf, the growing grass would be more exciting to watch than the sport being played there.
