i know most people here wont “get this”..but to the lucky ones that grew up near the Canadian border, we got to hear the great Canadian Hockey announcers. Danny Gallivan, Don Wittman.Ward Cornell. And now Bob Cole has passed away. Saturday Night watching HNIC was the best. End of an era...the guys today cant hold a match to these guys..they were the best.
I am sure it was just an innocent oversight but... Foster Hewitt.
And as a teen in NYC and a devoted Rangers fan I would listen to Gallivan on CBM Montreal and Hewitt on CBL Toronto when Rangers played either on a Saturday night as no NY station did their games and Ch9 only did delayed tape. One issue I had and still have was the Canadian style of using the past tense in describing the action. Most American announcers like the great Win Elliot and Jim Gordon use the basketball style present tense. But I recognize the well deserved praise Hewitt and the others earned.
