Mystery Vapors Identified As Mexican Food
Office Closed For Days
PRINEVILLE, Ore. -- Mexican food apparently caused strange vapors at a Bureau of Land Management office in Prineville. The BLM office was closed for three days after several employees were taken to the hospital. All of the workers have since recovered.
The vapors were identified as capsaicin -- a compound found in hot peppers or chilies.
No one knows how the vapors got into the building. The investigation continues.

This is news? Texans have known that Mexican food causes "mystery vapors" for a very long time..........;^)

I (half) watched a program the other night about "spontaneous human combustion". Seems like there was something about Mexican food & vapors that caused it. Wish I had paid more attention.

see now? when you're in line at taco bell, you'll be asking yourself, "Is it the burrito or the enchilada?" You take your life into your own hands when you ignore cable television

This article isn't very clear. Was it Mexican food that caused the vapors or was it capsacin itself? If it was Mexican food it seems they would not need to continue to look for the source. Maybe someone brought in their lunch or there is a restaurant near by. If it is plain capsaicin then someone could have released pepper spray in the office. That is a very different thing indeed and something to be concerned about.

Sounds like someone opened up a jar of hot sauce!
I made some one time with chili petins and habeneros that you could use to etch glass.
The finish on my stainless steel Vent-a-Hood was permanently destroyed.
'Course the next morning after indulging in a big helping of that the night before, my hemorrhoids were permanently destroyed, also, along with a goodly portion of where they had resided.

The only ethnic foods I will not eat are Mexican and Japanese.
Mexican food is dog food;
Japanese food is cat food.
