The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

and the decorum made Michael Moore look like such an ass that even Hollywood booed him.

I didn't watch the whole show, but I did have the honor of seeing this man not only booed, the rest of hollywood seemed to sit there with their arms crossed over their chests. Fantastic. We must not let the media get away with saying he got a standing ovation for that sludge he spewed.

I also got to see Peter O'Toole say how wonderful the US was.

It's much too nice a day to spend at work.

Morning again. I can't think of weather bad enough that it wouldn't be too nice a day to spend at work...

Good morning Hole Dwellers:

I agree with Corin's feelings about the mediots trying to portray the U.S. as "losing the war". War is hell and to think we could get through it without a single death or capture is solely wishful thinking. We all want it to be that way, but unfortunately it is never the case.

The most important thing to remember is that Saddam CHOSE war over peace. He had plenty of opportunity to avoid conflict, but as expected, he decided to sacrifice lives (hopefully his own) for power.

Nevertheless, I was saddened to see the pic of Andy Serkis (Circus - LOL) holding the "No war for oil" sign at the Oscars. Yet, hope remains while company is true (Thanks Sean Astin!).

Let's have some breakfast and remember to keep all of our folks in our prayers today, especially the POWs.

Bacon egg and cheese omelets with extra bacon and sausage on the side. Buttermilk biscuits and blueberry muffins are in the covered basket on the table. Fried eggs, grits and hash browns are on the hot plate. Coffee is strong and hot and ready to serve, and as usual, the juices are in the icebox. ENJOY!!

Okay, gardening question time:

Our daffodils have come up, but some got beaten down by the rain. (I'm not certain that Jr. and his cousin didn't trample a few whilst playing laser tag, but that's another story). Is there something I can do to help them stand up? Is there a viagra for daffodils?

Also, do I have to divide them after they finish blooming? I can promise you I won't do that on the one's I planted over the cat's grave. But what about the one's in the front yard?

In other news: This was NOT the day to forget to take my allergy meds.

Heheheh.... Tehanu at TORN gets the the funny we all missed, wondering about the parallels between Sean and Andy, and their characters:

Sean Astin prays for troops, comments on Oscars.
3/24/03, 6:43 am EST - Tehanu

Sean Astin appeared on Joan and Melissa Rivers' miniature red carpet to send a message out to our troops in Iraq, via television. In short, he said that since the beginning of the war he got down on bended knee to pray for them, and that he's still praying for them and for a victory, and that he hopes for their safe return.

Also, Joan and Melissa asked him if it was a disappointment to them (the LotR cast and crew) that Peter Jackson wasn't nominated. Sean replied by explaining that they had pretty much prepared themselves for disappointment with these films (implying that they are getting less credit than due). Overall, Sean was very serious and genuine, and kept a solemn air about him.

Andy Serkis at the awards.

Greenleaf sent a link to this picture of Andy Serkis [Gollum] at the awards; [More] You have to wonder if Serkis and Astin disagree in real life as much as their characters do.

Wellll....I suppose you could stake them.

As for dividing...I think that the time you do that is in the fall when you would be transplanting or planting them. I can look it up somewhere to be sure.

Don't cut back the foliage after they've bloomed so they can make their food to bloom next year.

Morning ICBI! Thanks for that! - Yes, I forgot to mention Peter O' Toole.... and the actor who won for The Piano. His speech was unexpected and nervous, but his words were OK, and his hope for the safety of the troops, and a personal friend of his who is in Kuwait, got a standing O.

Hollywood managed to be not too bad!
