The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Our town had their traditional "Olde Home Days" festival. Autumn got to go on her first pony ride ever.

She cried the whole time...poor kid.

Hey, that's cool! Looks like a really cool place .. I love unique places!

I was in Gruene, Texas Saturday. There's an old bar/saloon/dancehall there, Gruene Hall, where they filmed that scene in Michael where Travolta is dancing in the saloon.. I had to go in there and have a beer.. just to say I did! It was an old, original, open air barn building with hard wood floors and old wood tables and benches where you can carve your name or whatever. It was sooooooooo cool. Just made me wonder though, of all the places in the WORLD, how they ended up in Gruene Hall to film that scene??? lol .. I'll post pictures when I get them..

She was ok with it when we were waiting in line. She kept waving to the pony and saying how pretty it was. But, once it came time for her to get close to it, she started getting nervous...then eventually broke down into tears.

Bless her little heart. She sounds like Clare did at that age. Thought she was adventurous, but not quite!

That's how Joshua used to be with Santa Claus. I was the same way. Matthew is incredibly brave and never had moment like that.

She's the same way with Santa or the Easter Bunny. I assume she'll just grow out of it...nothing wrong with being a little shy anyway.

To kind of make up for it, we went grocery shopping on Saturday at Sam's Club, and I bought her "DragonTales: Dragon Seek" for Playstation. Spent most of the afternoon Saturday in A/C'd comfort, eating pizza, and playing DragonTales. She's a natural! Granted, the game's only got two basic functions...move and action...but she got the hang of it pretty quickly!

"I press Circle button now, Daddy?"

"You got it, kiddo!"

"YAY! I found Ord and Cassie!"

lol...it was one of the best afternoons of my life.

Good morning everyone!

I took the kids to the zoo yesterday and we had a blast! It was sweltering out there, so we were glad for the misters the zoo has installed throughout the park. Whew!

Glen and my sister Kelly were making fun of me yesterday because I took the kids into the petting zoo area and after about 2 minutes they were bored, but I didn't want to leave yet because I had been just sitting there scratching this Barbados sheep behind her ears and on her chest and she was just loving it!

I would get up to pet another critter and she would walk in between me and the other animal for more scratching! LOL! I must have spent a good 15 minutes just a scratchin' away. Even the zoo keeper laughed and said "Would you look at that?!" - the way she followed me around, leaving her herd behind! Never seen anything like it.

Anyway, Glen and Kelly said it was the funniest thing seeing me walk away slowly from her and the sad look in her eyes saying "Where are you going?" Kelly said she could almost hear the sad ending music from the TV Incredible Hulk series playing!

I really liked that old ewe. She and I are kindred spirits in some way. It broke my heart to leave her! Isn't that strange?

Anyway, on to breakfast! No lamb chop jokes please!

You're a good sort!

I tell ya, I still remember the shame of it when I was little and my mom pointed out all the people who were staring at me crying...it was so humiliating.

Oh no! My mom used to do the same to me! I've always said, if nothing else, my mom taught me shame and guilt like no one else could.

I think to a small degree, though, it can be effective. Kind of like when she used to say, "Keep it up, and I'll call the Bad Boys School to come take you away!" Oh man...how that used to scare the heck out of me!

LOL! I always say "I'm calling "THE PUBLIC SCHOOL!" Sends Matthew into a panic...he feels so bad for those kids getting on the bus at 8am and not coming home till 4pm! He thinks it's DREADFUL!

"I'm calling "THE PUBLIC SCHOOL!"

Classic! Absolutely classic!

Regretfully, I used the "Bad Girls School" threat on Autumn once a few months ago when she was being particularly difficult. She completely broke down crying, and it even gave her nightmares for a few nights. I felt like a complete jerk, so I've since vowed to never use it again.

At least until she's much older...lol
