Super Bowl Episode of Alias
1/27/03 | Carton253

I was just wondering if there were any Alias fans out there who saw last night's episode and wanted to talk about it.

Alias is my favorite show, and I thought last night's payoff was fantastic. And the set-up for coming episodes really compelling.

I saw ALIAS for the first time last night and really liked it. But for the clueless among us, what exactly is the Alliance and how is it that they had high-tech headquarters everywhere with agents who think they work for CIA? Is it really like, the offices of the DNC or something?

Heck, I think it's part of the fun. Outlandish costumes, right, left and sideways.

You never know where she's gonna be, or who she's gonna be impersonating next.

And my wife appreciates the fact that Syd can kick butt in stiletto heels!

Typical 'Alias' line: "What was wrong with the black? Do you think it's COMFORTABLE wearing clothes like these?" while she garrotes the computer guy.

I've never watched the show, but after giving my nieces some Nancy Drew books for Christmas I saw an ad for the show and thought 'Hey, I'll bet Alias is just Nancy Drew grown up.' Ha ha ha. Am I right?

The alliance is a group of intelligence and arms dealers. They're set-up is to be like the CIA, Mossad, etc. in different countries. There are twelve divisions. The one in LA is SD-6. Those who work at SD-6 believe they work for the black-ops division of the CIA against the Alliance. They have no idea they are working for the alliance.

Their checks come from CIA, Langley, etc.

Now, it is fanciful (kind of James Bondage)... but for about 18 months, we have seen Jack and Sydney Bristow work against the Alliance. Last night was the pay-off.

Also... Sloan (the guy on the beach) headed up SD-6. One of the rules of the Alliance is to kill anyone who knows about SD-6. Sloan's wife knew. The Alliance told him to kill her. He did not, and manipulated the Bristows to help bring down the Alliance. Obviously, he has set up another "Alliance" type organization for the Bristows to battle.

From the fall of SD-6 to the end was totally plot twisting and unexpected from this viewer.

I think its fun too, but its not the reason I watch. I like the fact that she can kick butt too.

And they typical Alias line was funny.

No... not right at all. It's James Bonds with a woman as 007 and a whole lot of intrigue and action. Check it out.

Alias?!!??!

A TV program?!?!?!

I thought I was watching an add for Victorias' Secret or something. Talk about appealing to the baser instincts.... If the show is so great, won't it stand up on its own merits? Personally, I have seen the show and think its a rather poor variation on Peta Wilson and "La Femme Nikita". Now THAT show had class.... This one looks like an el cheapo porn magazine, if the shows are anything like the Super Bowl adds.

(and if you don't watch Alias or think its dumb, or don't watch anything but cable... please kindly refrain from posting. I know what I'm asking is hard... but do try)

I DID watch it once, and still posted... :)

The Alliance is kinda like SPECTRE in the old Bond films, only the bad guys look more normal. And they don't carry persian cats around all over the place.

Basically, organized crime on an international scale (kinda like the DNC, at that).

Quick breakdown:

SD-6 (who you saw get wiped out last night) is/was posing as a covert-ops branch of the CIA. JG's character (Sydeney) found out, went to CIA, was recruited as double agent.

Closest thing to recurring plotline: Alliance (who run the SD cells) wants something, usually for world domination or something bad. Sloan (ex-boss) says to Dixon and Sydney, "National Security depends on you bringing this back to SD-6" and Syd goes to Vaughn, where we find out exactly how they're going to a) recover/obtain/achieve whatever it is, b) get it to the CIA, and c) keep Sloan from figuring out that he's been had.

It gets pretty intense sometimes. And they keep torturing Sydney and Jack. That hardly seems fair.

That's okay.

Well, I think that they put her in a Victoria's Secret get-up was to appeal to guys watching the Super Bowl. Is it exploitation... yes, but it works... so it will continue.

Sorry you don't like the show. But, I do.

Thanks for your post.

I've never seen the show but that won't keep me from posting comments. ABC sucks.

I didn't think it would keep you from posting. After all, if I didn't know your opinion, how would I get through the day.

Thanks for insightfulness.

I think it was too late. It had to come through the mail. I couldn't believe when she hugged him that she was missing that finger. That's intense.
