Pet Deer Kills Man Grandson Discovers Body, Shoots Deer

GILBERTOWN, Ala. -- An elderly man was killed Monday when his pet deer attacked him.

The nine-point buck gored and mauled 79-year-old Donald Sellers while Sellers was working on a fence on his property Monday in the Chapel Hill community, according to Choctaw County Sheriff Don Lolley.

Sellers had raised the deer since it was a fawn and the sheriff says it often became aggressive during the rutting and mating season. He believes that might have prompted the attack.

A grandson discovered the body, then shot and killed the deer when it acted aggressively toward him.

When are people going to learn that there is a fine line between what is a domesticated animal and a wild animal, you can't even trust some breeds of dogs never mind a deer.

A lady in FL just lost her arm by an alligator which a community had adopted and actually named , instead of catching it and donating it to a zoo or making shoes out of it, they kept a wild animal, close by civilized humans and actually thought he was no harm. They were wrong.

Yep, they are just wild animals which provide a food source for humans.

The deer wanted a girlfriend, not an old man. This guy probably had a few too many beers over his lifetime which killed off some brain cells in the "common sense" section of his brain. He should have bought a cat or dog.

At least the grandson knew what to do.

During rutting season, even seemingly tame bucks are extremely dangerous. Several deer ranchers in Michigan have been gored and severely injured if not died because they invaded the buck's territory during rutting season.

Some ranchers refuse to go in a cage until rutting season is over for that very reason. That's not chicken. That's smart.

And I'm referring to professional ranchers, not some John or Jane Doe that thinks it would be cool to have a pet deer.

But....but...Bambi couldn't have done that. Deer are poor defenseless animals incapable of harming anything......

Never mind the fact that they are big, strong, fast, can blend into surroundings, and have a great sense of smell and good hearing.
