ARE THE COALITION FORCES RUNNING OUT OF AMMUNITION?

Posted on 03/23/2003 4:18:06 PM PST by itsinthebag

My sister told me that Peter Jennings said in his report tonight that the coalition forces were running out of ammunition because they did not anticipate the resistance of the Iraqis and therefore they have used more ammo than anticipated. Did anyone hear this too?

ABC and its sponsors are enemies of the US
through Peter Jennings, who is always eager to defend Islamic terrorists,
always eager to give away factoids of US weapons' limitations during battle
or the position of US forces to their enemies.

HEY, PETER JENNINGS, WHAT DID YOU SAY
HOW MANY AMERICAN PATRIOTS HAVE YOU KILLED TODAY?

Hahahaahah... I'm a former ammo troop, we've got more ammo than there are fish in the sea.

Overall, the level of contact probably isn't as high as command made provision for. I'm surprised they haven't run out of fuel considering the blistering pace.

Jennings, with his extensive military experience, may know something the rest of us don't.

It wouldn't surprise me if the supply lines were hosed and we were expending ordnance at a faster pace than it could be re-supplied at. OTOH, if that is the case and someone is supllying the press with the info and the press is reporting it, it's inexcusable!

I know nothing about the supply of ammunition, but I have observed President Bush, and I have observed Peter "the Canadian" Jennings. My money is on the President. I will give Peter 10 to one odds.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I'm just so depressed. This has been an awful day. I can't seem to stop crying. I don't watch Peter Jennings, so I'm glad to hear that he's a liar.

Jennings is a liar. They also just had a report editorializing that U.S. troops were barely able to handle that skirmish at Umm Qasr and that was leaving many with questions about how we could possibly deal with Baghdad. There's no comparison, of course, because we are obviously expecting attacks at Baghdad and this was a complete surprise--and nonetheless, a complete success with no casualties on our side.

Jennings also surmised how those women that were tortured shouldn't really be praising the U.S. for helping the Iraqi people, saying that sanctions by the U.S. were causing them harm. These were, of course, UN imposed sanctions, and, Saddam was allowed to sell as much oil as needed for food and medicine and used the money for his own bank account, palaces, and probably military buildup instead. Jennings is a disgrace.

Quit watching Jennings. Dan Rather seems to be doing a marginally better job, if you are stuck with just the networks.

I had to return to school from Spring Break and now am without the Fox News Channel and stuck with CNN and the networks. It stinks.

Peter Jennings spews enemy propaganda on a regular basis and he does it with a condensending attitude. He is the typical liberal intelligentia who thinks he knows better than anyone else. Do not pay attention to anything he says. FReepers could give you example after example of this.

Relax our country is in good hands.

Remember, the adults are in charge.

I was in the army in the late 50's and early 60's. We were still using ammo made 20 years before I was born. The army was, believe it or not, using ammo made for use during WWI. Lots of ammo I fired was dated 1918, 1919.

America has huge stores of mortar, artillery, machine gun and rifle rounds. We haven't used up all the stuff made for the VietNam war yet and we keep making more.

It is true we were about out of Smart Bombs and Cruse Missiles when Dubya took office. But after 9/11 Bush got huge appropriations to make a huge stock of new smart bombs.

The bombs used in Gulf War One and Kosovo were all made during the Reagan Administration. They were about all gone after Clinton used them but did not replace them. But we have been making new updated ones ever since Dubya took office. We have also converted 10's of thousands of old 1 and 2 thousand pound dumb bombs to 1 and 2 thousand pound smart bombs.

Jennings does not have a clue. We had a rush program to make Smart Bombs ever since Dubya took office. I suspect we have 30 or 40 times as many as we had in Gulf War I.

It has been said many times that Dubya allows his generals to both plan and run the war. Generals know that if they win the war, no one ever trashes them for having too many weapons and too much ammunition. So Generals always figure all they could use and then request 20 times that much.

That is why the Army still has lots of rounds of ammo dated 1943.

Look, I am not a former soldier nor am I a combat veteran in a general sense, but I do have extensive experience in a para-military law enforcement unit (draw you conclusions) that has trained with retired Navy Seals, Delta, and FBI HRT members. Based on my admittedly limited experience, I can tell you that the Umm Qsar "battle" was nothing more than a very light sparring match. I watched the whole thing as it happened.

#1 - Nobody is going to perform a dynamic entry, especially on a compound that size, when they can simply hold a perimeter and call in an armored vehicle.

#2 - Nobody in their right mind is going to enter a standing building to sweep for hostiles when they can simply call in an air strike.

#3 - These were local Baghdad Saddam fanatics (similar to the San Fran. Commie/Lib protesters only with guns instead of dope and moltov cocktails)that came down to collect on the bounty offered by the regime.

#4 - You can bet your A$$ that what remains of the Iraqi Regime has sent these people down to ambush and harrass troops knowing that it will be broadcast on the tube and in order to inflame the weak stomached commies in this country as well as the mentally challenged Islamofacist thugs on the Arab Street.

Did anyone else notice the back and forth between the troops and the Iraqi VP? Iraqi VP saw this on Al Jazeera, called a presser, and then began to spout the typical mindless bable claiming a "fierce battle". Centcom and the field commanders got wind of this, knew they were watching, and within the span of thirty minutes called in an airstrike to end this great "battle". I thought it was classic. I wonder how many tuned in to watch this "battle" only to see our heroes bombed the hell out of these misguided morons.
