Miss Texas stood up and got counted last night when posed with a question as to the legitimacy of war in Iraq. Though she didn't win the contest, she did win our hearts. NICOLE O'BRIAN is her name, and I only wish I could find the transcript, she was excellent.
What a switch from the Oscars!

Beauty contest judges used to look for a woman who has beauty, talent, and brains. However today, the judges are no longer interested in these traits. They are more inteterested in finding a woman who would serve as an attractive spokeswoman for various PC causes.

IIRC, the secind half of her reply ended with, "I think we need to stand behind our president, our soldiers, our country and our freeedoms". She was cut off in the middle by thousands of screaming Texans after the word 'President'.
Natalie Maines, alleged Texan, are you listening?

Can she sing?
(If so, the other two Dixie Chicks might want to consider hiring her immediately.)

Judging from your article title, I thought this was going to be a story about one of the losers suing in the courts only to have the court uphold the results of the contest. Are you an editor/headline writer for AP by any chance?
